Hi Jo, thanks for writing and sharing with us another piece of explanation (and in such a good English though your are from Germany!). Do I know you? Are you Jo-Jo?

It’s good to see that there are not only those 2nd gens who defend UBF. Actually I think there are many 2nd gens like you who are critical, but unfortunately they don’t take time to discuss the UBF problems (at least not here). I guess they simply want to forget or have other important and exciting things in their life. It also seems that ex 2nd gens, ex shepherds and ex missionaries speak with each other inside their respective groups only.

Actually, one of the things we want to achieve with this forum is trying to understand why the various people (leaders, missionaries, shepherds, 2nd gens) in UBF behave in such a way that now seems to us so irrational. Your posting was a helpful contribution to achieve such an understanding.

Well, most of us have been in UBF and therefore understand it partially. But actually we were very ignorant at that time, we did not have the mass of information and education that is available at your fingertips now through the Internet (I’m not thinking of UBF specific websites only, but also of web pages with proper Biblical teaching and pages about shepherding/discipling, spiritual abuse and mind control in general). The question is how can people who have that background knowledge and so many testimonies available still defend UBF? That’s what I still don’t understand completely. Anyway, your explanations were helpful.

Please keep in touch with this forum. Most of us have been “shepherds” or “sheep” in UBF, but we also need the view from 2nd gens and missionaries.
