The couple had left hours earlier after being assured that they would be contacted as soon as Nick was out of surgery. It was a long, drawn out, complicated and delicate surgery that had seven of the top neurosurgeons in the room for a total of twelve hours. Nick had lost all brain activity twice but was now resting and in a recovery room. The surgery as far as they could tell had been an success and thats what they told Karlie when they came in to update her though they also told her that they would have to wait and see how it went when Nick woke up to see if it was a complete success. The big thing was that there was brain activity being registered which meant that if nothing else...he would come out of the surgery no worse then how he had gone into it. After explaining it all to her, they quietly informed her that she would be allowed to see Nick as soon as he was settled into the ICU and sure enough, twenty minutes later, a nurse was leading the way to the private room Nick was in. -- RD Future: County Hospital
