Growing up the bulb syringe enema was given in most homes.
Given by moms , aunt and others.

Were you given bulb syringe enemas?

We never had a doctor make visits to the home. But my mom and aunt were told to give an enema with the bulb.
Either across the lap or on a table.

This was in the late 50s and the 60s

Carol A, I don't know why my mom and grandma were insistent on using the traditional red enema bag (fountain syringe). I suspect that it must have been more convenient because I always got them in the tub and my older sister got hers on the bed. I probably had an accident which prompted the tub to become the preferred venue.

It wasn't until several years later that mom gave birth to my younger sisters. I saw them get suppositories and enemas (with a bulb syringe). It was on a changing table or even on the front room sofa. We lived in such a small apartment, that privacy was practically nil.

My mom did counsel other moms and relatives regarding enemas. Our pediatrician retired when I turned 12 and his replacement wasn't suggesting enemas as often. I believe that may have prompted some change in frequency and choice of equipment. Grandma was aging and in poor health.

Was it you who worked a bit in a health food store? Or was it another mom who posts here and elsewhere? In any case, I believe it's great that you ladies have advocated enema use. I'm in Utah and there are several natural or health food stores who also have very helpful clerks who advocate for enema/colonic use. Coffee enemas are quite popular.

Best to you and other moms who advocate for this simple procedure and pleasure!

From 5 until about 10, Mom used a bulb for my soapsuds enemas and the bag for plain water rinse enemas. She liked using the bulb for the SSEs so that she could quickly squirt the soapy water into me. She liked the bag for rinses and made me take as much as I could hold, so those enemas were also a volume kind of thing. By the time I was 8, I could hold a full two quarts! Of course, Mom encouraged these high volume enemas and I loved being praised for being able to hold so much volume, as well as for the required length of time.
