It is actually the central theme of the Gospel or Good News that someone, JESUS, has paid for your ultimate freedom! In this way freedom IS a free gift, but we must accept it in order to enter into a right relationship with the Father God. Acceptance of the sacrifice that One Man made for all men on the cross of Calvary. Christ's sacrifice is the gift of reconciliation between God and sinners everywhere and at every age. But, as the bumper stickers say this freedom was not free! The price for our freedom was paid once and for all by Jesus through His death on the cross. He did away with the power of sin to harm all those who come into right relationship by accepting His sacrifice for it. We enter into this relationship of forgiveness of sins through an acknowledgement of our own poverty and complete helplessness and hopelessness to ever be able to pay the price for freedom on our own, or through our own pursuits. This is why our relationship to Jesus is the entry point to the only real freedom there is; the freedom from sin! For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God! Come ye sinner and drink from the cup of salvation. When you do, you will not only receive forgiveness from every sin you have ever committed but even more amazingly, you will receive the power to remain free from sin!

That we, as believers, can remain free from sin in this life all the way to tne next is the most important message in this little conveyance on freedom. It is a truth that is not often taught in churches today, but remains fundamental in understanding the goodness of God. The god of this world, the deciever, the accuser of the brethren does not want us to know that we have been promised this kind of true freedom from every adversary. Freedom from sin is not only possible, it is conditional for our insurance of Christ's protection while we live in the flesh on this side of eternity. When we don't honor what we know to be true from holy writ, it is like not paying our insurance premium. When the crisis comes, we have no right to make a claim because our policy has been cancelled! Until we get back in right standing, or our policy is reinstated, our prayers cannot be answered because we have not done what we know to do. It is not knowing the law that keeps us free, but knowing it and keeping it! This is the cost of freedom for the believer!

For me, in my life, success could not come until I made a choice, a decision. The choice was to first believe it and then to follow it. That choice started with my confession of faith; I could not believe without saying I believe. Since then, I have tried to follow without believing it, but it doesn't work. I have tried believing without following and it is worse yet! The victorious Christian life comes as a result of true repentance; acknowledging my inability to live right before God without the light of God's word and then turning toward that light. It is only when I am walking in that light that I can remain free from the sin that so easily besets me.

It is that Word of God which is the light revealed to all who will believe and follow; and the word became flesh and dwelt among us. JESUS was and is the complete manifestation of the word of God.

Now, with my eyes opened to the truth that is revealed in scripture, I can begin to rise above every circumstance and every obstacle in my life through daily contact with this living bread. I cannot avoid trials and tribulation in this life by believing, but I can say with complete coviction that I am free at last, free at last, thank God almighty I am free at last! When the Son sets free, you are free indeed!

Because of Him, I can face tomorrow!
