his dark frame emerges into the shadows as ruffian boy steps forth, pulling Rachelle's attention toward him. usual look of boredome clouds facials as he leans against the hard, cold wall, waiting for the charade to end. the panic within her voice does nothing to alarm him, neither does the fear in Josh's. bulky form shifts slightly as she fades into the shadows, the two men approaching with an air that brought dread into the alley. apprehension tugs brutally at his throat, yet is shoved down with the skill of someone used to practising it daily. with the dense thud of Josh's fallen body his gaze fixes on the face of one of the men as they tromp away, having done their bidding. he instantly reconized the man as a high up member in one of the surrounding gangs. he felt sickened to know that he actually knew the man who brought death to a friend of this young girl. he was outraged with himself for pitying her. why should he? hadn't he learned long ago not to care? as she rushes forward he balks in the darkness, his lack of wisdom with people compelling him to run off. stepping into the low moonlight he crouches near the body, two broad digits moving to touch the side of the fallen man's throat. dead. he rocked back uneasily on his heels, knowing damn well that he should say something. but completely at a loss for something witty to say, knowing it would not be appreaciated in this time of loss. "I--" his voice cracks with the labor he was putting in to say something at all, leastwise something nice. "I'm sorry about...your friend." he clears his throat, bulky hand reaching up to run through his short cropped hair. what else could he say or do? surely nothing. she probably would even scorn him for daring to sympathize with her. an almost sigh racks his shoulders as an image flashes before his eyes. shaking his head he clears his mind of the unwanted black and white image of his mother...
