i'm 15, and have never missed or had a late period. so far, the period i'm expecting is over a week late, so i am worried. to top it off, my last period was far lighter than before, so i don't know who the father may be, or how far along i am. i don't have the funds to care for a baby, nor would i have the support of my family...or the man that had fathered the child. do you have any ideas?
Sophie

Sophie,

I am glad you came, but please note that we cannot diagnose pregnancy over the internet, nor are we doctors. And even a doctor would be unable to diagnose pregnancy over the internet.

That said, we are willing to help you if you turn out to be pregnant, so please feel free to come back when you find out one way or the other. In the meantime, there are some other things you should consider. You may well have contracted a sexually transmitted disease, especially since you have been with more than one person. It's a deadly lifestyle, and even if you don't have one now, you could easily contract one. Please don't put yourself at risk. Condoms do NOT work, and most birth control methods also do not work well in the circumstances you describe. Pregnancy may also become inevitable if you continue. You also don't deserve the emotional baggage that goes with this lifestyle.

Finally, stress can cause disruptions of a woman's period. And that could be the case with you.

Please go to a doctor or a crisis pregnancy agency and get a diagnosis, and tell him that he needs to check you for STD's as well. Good luck!

Hugs,
Pat

Hi Sophie,

Welcome to the board! I'm really glad you found this place. If you're a week late on your current period and speculating that your last period might not have been a real one, then you are probably well overdue for a home pregnancy test. You can buy for $7-$10 at just about any grocery store or pharamcy, etc. They usually sell them next to the feminine hygiene products. They are very accurate, and can be take as early as 10 days after unprotected sex.

You can also find your cities local Pregnancy Resource Center and they'll give you a free pregnancy test and just about anything else you need. All their service are free and they exist to help women in unplanned pregnancies.

So it sounds like your first step is to end the mystery and find out if you're pregnant. Please feel free to come back and post again. If you are pregnant, it's not the end of the world! Many women have experienced unplanned pregnancies and while the options aren't always easy, they are manageable - especially with the wealth of support that is available.

Let us know what you find out!

With Kindness,

Heather

Sophie~
Hello and welcome to our board! Sorry I haven't posted yet! I've been dealing with sick children lately! :) Okay, as far as a crisis pregnancy center near you, here's a link to a list of the closest ones to you: http://www.ramahinternational.org/canada.html#
There is a specific one for Chilliwack BC, but also one's around that area as well. I would give them a call and see if they can help you. Crisis pregnancy centers are great and often can offer wonderful resources and help. Give them a call and let us know how things go! I will be praying for you! I know you must be stressed! Hope to hear from you soon!
God bless,
Tracey

Hi Sophie,

I will send you an e-mail at the address you gave. The best way to find out if you are pregnant is with a pregnancy test. If you would like I can help you find a place in your area that can provide one for you. Please let me, and the other ladies know what you find out and then we will know how best to help you get whatever support you need.

Sophie,

Be sure to research the effects of abortion on a woman (physical and mental) before you decide to have an abortion. If this is your first pregnancy, there is an increased risk of breast cancer if you abort. (The risk doesn't appear to be present if you give birth to your first pregnancy and abort a subsequent pregnancy.) It appears to be due to the fact that when you're pregnant, your breast tissue changes. If you continue the pregnancy and give birth, the breast tissue settles into a stable state - producing milk (or drying up, if you choose not to nurse.) But, if you cut the pregnancy short, the breast tissue stays in that sort of "unstable" state and appears to be more prone to breast cancer in the future. Some sites will tell you the risk is not there, but the main study they refer to included women who had NEVER been pregnant and included women under 25 (the breast cancer typically doesn't show up until later than that) - both of which throw off the results. In fact, the whole idea of their being a link came from breast doctors who noticed more and more women presenting with breast cancer who didn't have any of the known risk factors. They found that a high number of them had had abortions. (So, if you DO end up aborting, be sure to get VERY regular check-ups for breast cancer.)

Also, be SURE to go out and visit some of the post-abortive women sites. At those sites, women express their anguish resulting from their decision and the life-long devastating effects it has had on them. Most of them expressed a belief that the abortion would fix everything, but it only created a whole new list of problems in their lives.

Also, be sure you really know what the abortion procedure does. I've heard from lots of women who've said "If I'd only known it wasn't a blob of tissue I wouldn't have had an abortion." So, be sure you know how developed your little one is. (You'd hate to find out AFTERWARDS and have to shoulder the knowledge that if you'd known ahead of time, you might have done differently.) One site that has pictures of what an abortion does to an 8 - 10 week old fetus is http://www.abortionno.org (Be warned, though, there are some very graphic pictures there.)

I'll say a prayer for you...I know you don't think you can do vet school and have a baby, but you might surprise yourself. A lot of us at this site didn't think we could handle school and a baby, but we managed.

Also, don't worry about the dad not being in the picture. Actually, sometimes that can be a bit of a blessing! It means you don't have to hassle with him ;-)

You might also look into an open adoption.

Hi, Sophie,

What have you done to see if you can afford to have your baby? Will you look back on your life someday and think, "I traded my baby for a horse"? I know you love your horse very much, but that isn't much of a trade. Who will love you when you are too old to care for your horse? Why can't you take the pre vet course with a baby? Have you considered adoption?

Don't give up quite so quickly on your family. Tell us more about why you don't think they will support you.

What would happen if you had the abortion and you were injured so you could no longer care for your horse?

We will keep praying for you. There are better answers.

Hugs,
Pat
