To me this along with Pilot created kind of a yin and yang thing showing how Mulder and Scully's relationship would go from then on. In the first ep we were lead to believe that Scully would be the follower and tha t Mulder knew everything, was in control and always kept his cool. Then boom, in Deep Throat Mulder is breought down hard, we see he isn't as strong as we might have thought adn Scully has to step up and save his bacon. In Pilot she was scared and he helped comfort her. In Deep Throat Scully takes on the mother role rescuing her lost cub. It was a great way to show how fallible and vulnerable they would both be throughout the series.

I didn't think GA's acting was up to her bes yet. She was still learning. I agree the paranormal bouquet line wasn't too good. Maybe they were both still feeling their way around the strange dialog.
I loved Scully's confrontation with the guy in the car. GA was very good at acting panicky and also liked the scene with M&S in the motel room chatting and then her realizing that Mulder had taken off.

DD was great as the disoriented victim at the end when Scully came to get him.
