Trying to track down the program from the 1st Miss Canada contest. Why? I was a 13 year old baseball player for Mahoney Park. Our team and the league was sponsered by the Hamilton Police Ass., as was the MISS CANADA contest. Our ballteam was the poster boys for the program with a team picture in the front section. I have tried the local library but they do not have a copy. I have 8 children and 30 grandchildren. They keep after me about pictures from my youth. At my age (81) maybe this would satisfy them. THANK YOU PS Just looking for a copy of the team picture

TORONTO, ON (Friday, March 20th 2015) - A Canadian tradition, Miss Universe® Canada is the Canadian representative sent to compete at the annual Miss Universe® pageant. Canada is one of only four countries (along with France, Germany, and the USA) which has competed in each Miss Universe® pageant since its inception in 1952.

The 64th annual Miss Universe® Canada Pageant will be held at the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts Theatre in Toronto. Over 65 delegates from across Canada will be in Toronto from May 16th to May 23rd and will compete for the title of Miss Universe® Canada 2015 awarded on Saturday, May 23rd 2015.

The reigning Miss Universe® Canada, Chanel Beckenlehner will assist in crowning her successor before a live audience.

With an established reputation, The Metro St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts Theatre has been chosen to be the host venue for the 2015 Miss Universe® Canada pageant for the fifth time.

The pageant consists of two separate audience attended events:

Pageant Presentation Show (Thursday, May 21st, 2015)

All 65+ delegates from across Canada compete before a live audience and a judging panel in the traditional categories (Swimwear and Evening Gown) for the chance to be selected as one of the Judges’ 15 semi-finalists. In addition, 5 segment winners will be joining the group of semi-finalists for a chance to win the title.

Miss Universe® Canada 2014 Pageant Finale Show (Saturday, May 23rd, 2015)

The top 20 semi-finalists from Thursday’s Pageant Presentation Show will compete for the title of Miss Universe® Canada 2015 in front of a judging panel as well as our live audience in the traditional categories (Swimwear and Evening Gown), plus the addition of a live interview/question and answer segment. However, all 65+ delegates will be involved in production numbers throughout the show.

Miss Universe® Canada delegates are selected each year by competing in local and regional casting calls and pageants held in select areas across the country. ‘Beauties of Canada’ has the exclusive rights to send a Canadian representative to the Miss Universe® Pageant.

Dawning the crown and sash, Riza is more than prepared to make Canada proud at the upconming Miss Universe Pageant on November 9th, 2013, in Moscow, Russia.

Yesterday evening, after having caught up from her trip to Nicaragua, Riza is now gearing her focus on preparing for the said, pageant.

"I am ready to try to bring Canada back to the Miss Universe Stage, although I know that it will be a lot of hard work!" says, the 26 year old beauty from Calgary, Alberta.

However, don't be fooled by the beauty queen, this intellectual engineering student/model is motivated by determination and is going to do her very best to show the world how truly beautiful our country is, and the diversity Canada represents, by being one of two Filipino Canadians to hold the Miss Universe Canada title. Back in 1996, British Columbia's, Renette Cruz (also of Philippine ancestry) competed against eventual winner, Alicia Machado of Venezuela.

After spending a little more than 2 weeks in Nicaragua being an advocate for both SOS Children's Villages Nicaragua and Operation Smile, Riza also spent some time visiting some of the beautiful areas of the country.

Alongside, Miss Universe 2005, Natalie Glebova, MUC 1st Runner Up, Siera Bearchell, MUC 3rd Runner Up, Denise Garrido, MUC Top 20 Placer, Alexandra Matthews, and Beauties of Canada Director, Denis Davila, Riza mentioned that the culture and beauty of Nicaragua was extremely humbling and inspiring.

She enjoyed her time in Nicaragua, but is now in full-force training to be 100% prepared to compete against the 80+ beauties at Miss Universe 2013.

Stay tuned for more updates :-)

Subject: MISS UNIVERSE CANADA FINAL PREDICTIONS

Author:
SexyDrew82
[ Edit | View ]

Date Posted: 14:11:59 05/24/13 Fri

With everything taken into consideration, the pre-arrival photos, Fadil Berisha official portraits, Allumski headshot close-ups, evening gowns and swimsuits I have finally come up with a Top 20 based on all of the factors mentioned, plus the politics that I think may occur. This year, it seemed like MUC was a little lower in numbers in comparison to the 62 delegates that competed last year, but nonetheless, present a high calibre of contestants, regardless. Last night, the preliminaries proved who the strong contenders were for the title and how easily not dieting or the wrong gown choice can DRASTICALLY change your fate into the Top 20 final spots. There were five delegates of whom, were fast tracked into the Top 20:

AUDIENCE FAVORITE: Barlen Zaro, ON
HUMANITARIAN AWARD: Alexandra Mathews, ON (who rased a record breaking amount for the MUC charities)
BEST IN SWIMSUIT: Sarah Ainsley Harrison, NS
BEST RUNWAY MODEL: Siera Bearchell, SK
PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD: Ashley Callingbull, AB

With that being said there are still 15 semi-finalist spots up for grabs. From the Top 20, 12 will advance after swimsuit and 5 after gown. Ultimately, there will be only one winner who will succeed Sahar Biniaz, as the new universal ambassador of beauty that will represent the country at the upcoming Miss Universe pageant this coming December. I originally had a SOLID top 20 that I didn’t think was going to change (even after prelims), but alas, my Top 20 changed and there was a lot of movement within it. I can honestly say that I have absolutely NO IDEA who will win the title this year. HOWEVER, I definitely have my own personal favorites who have “wowed” me throughout the past week and a half of competition, with some pleasant surprises!

With that being said, here are my FINAL predictions for Miss Universe Canada 2013:

TOP 20 :
20. BARLEN ZARO (Audience Favorite – Fast Tracked into Top 20)
Although Barlen captured the audience, I don’t think she will completely catch the attention of the judges. I find that she is a little too made up, too short and just not strong enough to win the overall title. I do like her sassy style and if she were much taller, and toned it down a little bit, I could definitely see her advancing further than just Top 20. Kudos to her for making an impact at the GTA’s and capturing the attention of the audience.

19. COURTNEY WOODFORD, NL
Courtney had improved sooooo much from her stint at Miss World Canada 2012. I actually didn’t even recognize her. From my recollection, being the only representative from Newfoundland, I think she did a stellar job representing her province. The problem is, I found her a little too safe and generic at this pageant. I wish that she had upped her game a little bit, because the MWC image is still present. Overall, she definitely stood out in my books just enough to make the Top 20. If she is able to advance to the Top 12, I truly hope that she changes into an evening gown that will break her personal boundaries. Perhaps something that is a little more sexy and edgy.

18. SHANDA PARKYN, AB
Shanda is another one that upped her game upon arrival. Her photos were not super impressive at first, but throughout the days, she definitely came out of her shell and her beauty speaks for itself. I think she is in the stronger half of girls in this competition. She has a lovely face, a great figure and a gown that stood out last night. The only thing I see as an obstacle in her making the 20, is a really unsuccessful interview. Otherwise, she is definitely worthy of a Top 20 slot.

17. SARAH FARAONE, ON
Sarah was one of my favorites coming out of the GTA’s. However, the momentum here has not been as strong as I would’ve like to see. Fear not, Sarah is still one of the most beautiful faces, and well prepared delegates competing this year and I have no doubt in my mind that she will make the Top 20. Although yellow was a gorgeous color on her last night, I still found gown choice a little boring. I hope that if she makes the Top 12, she chooses a gown that will showcase more of her lovely figure.

16. RITA HOUKAYEM, ON
Another GTA favorite, Rita looks like she has such an amazing personality. I love the warmth that she exudes when she smiles, and I think that alone will be enough to secure her a spot in the Top 20. Her gown was nice, her body was in decent shape…..I think that I would like to see a different type of styling when she gets to the finals, but overall, she looked gorgeous.

15. DENISE GARRIDO, ON
Our first double crown holder, I think Denise has done a wonderful job in improving her physical appearance to compete in this pageant. She is definitely coming across as a go-getter who really wants to represent the country at Miss Universe. However, I do think that her journey to the crown will be a difficult feat, simply because there are much stronger delegates that have performed extremely well. I think it will be somewhat of an obstacle for Denise to get to the Top 5, but because she has the experience of having competed at Miss World and Miss Earth, I do think that she does know what she’s doing and could definitely make a strong impact with the one-on-one interview with the judges.

14. ANGEL BHATHAL, AB
Angel is a veteran who has competed at both Miss World Canada and Miss Earth Canada (2nd runner up 2012). She definitely is one of the most beautiful faces in the pageant. Her performance in the preliminaries pleasantly surprised me. Her gown was stunning and her body was very fit and ready for competition. I think that she definitely has a chance to make it to the Top 12, even the Top 5, depending on how well she performs during the interview. Although I’ve placed her in my Top 20 only, I definitely think that she has the potential to go even further. Let’s see what happens.

13. LUCIA FUENMAYOR, ON
I wasn’t sure about Lucia when she competed at GTA, but throughout pageant week, she certainly has made a presence made for herself. She has a very pretty face, a petite body and excellent stage projection. Being of Latina descent, I think that her stage presence came natural to her, and thus, doing an extremely memorable job at last night’s prelims. She may be a little on the shorter side, but she is definitely that Latina ball of fire that I would love to see compete for the title, during the finals on Saturday!

TOP 12 :
12. EMILY BONDY, ON
I love this girl’s smile. There’s something about Emily that’s just so effortless on stage, that she simply just stands out. I know that she may not be a favorite on a lot of people’s lists, but I can definitely see her pulling a Venessa Fisher or Leanne Cecile and going all the way to the Top 5. Personally, she has a very inviting aura, and if she makes it to the Top 5 she could potentially win over the judges with the charm that she exudes in photos.

11. ANDREA CVIJETIC, ON
Andrea kept on going on and off my list, finally settling in my Top 12. I think she did an extremely great job during the prelims last night and is a strong representation of Ontario. During the GTA, I was a little unsure as to why she had advanced, but after seeing the photos from last night, I can definitely see why. Her body is excellent and her gown was very perfectly suited to her figure. Total top 12 material!

10. ALEXANDRA MATHEWS, ON (Humanitarian Award – Fast Tracked to Top 20)
Alexandra was a standout to me at GTA, and has been consistent ever since. I love her facial beauty and her very healthy frame. I wasn’t a big fan of her evening gown choice, but considering the fact that she was Miss Humanitarianism last night, I think that she’s going to do extremely, EXTREMELY well. I( have her slotted in my Top 12, but if she performs well during the final, she could EASILY advance her way into the Top 5. Alexandra is the epitome of Beauty with a purpose!

9. MICHELLE MCKAY, ON
Very pretty girl….Michelle has an amazing body and she chose a decent gown that was memorable enough. I think that she is one of the upper tier contestants from Ontario and I do not see her missing the cut. She was one of the best performers last night and her consistency has been ON, throughout pageant week. Definitely Top 12 material!

8. ELA MINO, AB
My heart goes out to Ela. I love this girl and she could potentially have the most beautiful face competing at this year’s pageant. My problem is, that she is so timid on stage that I wish she would bring it up a couple of notches. Ella competed at Miss World University representing Canada, and I think that she did well enough for a spot in the Top 12. Last year, she missed the cut, so I’m hoping that MUC will reward her a spot this year. Her body was fit as usual….her gown could’ve been much stronger, but I cannot ignore this girl. She is just too beautiful to miss the cut. I’m hoping for a Top 12 spot!

7. LIDIJA VASKOVIC, ON
Lidija is amongst the most naturally beautiful contestants in this competition. Although her gown choice was maybe not the best choice to showcase her figure, I still think that her overall beauty will make an impact. Lidija is very fresh to the pageant scene, and even though I don’t see her winning this year, per say, she has all of the raw goods to come back in a few years to win the overall title. She is so stunning that I can see her doing well enough this year to get noticed. She is definitely Top 12 material and I would be surprised to see her miss the cut altogether.

6. MARIYA DAVYDOV, QC
Mariya is like a living Barbie doll. I love everything about her and I think that she will easily make the Top 12. Her body was really good. I found that her evening gown was a little disco ballish, but she definitely stood out with her platinum blond hair. Being of Eastern European descent, Mariya definitely fits the MUC mold, and she is the strongest from Quebec. I think that she has a lot of potential for the Top 5, but it all depends on what the judges want as their choice for the best in Canada. Gorgeous girl in my opinion, and I hope to see her do very well on Saturday!

TOP 5 : NO CLASSIFICATIONS
I simply cannot decide who will win the Miss Universe Canada 2013 title. This is one of those things where we have no control who will make the Top 5. If I were a judge, I would choose the following Top 5 based on beauty and overall package alone. I think each of the following ladies, possess a strong chance at winning the title, according to competitive standards at Miss Universe and would definitely bring the country back to the semis:

ASHLEY CALLINGBULL, AB (People’s Choice Award – Fast Tracked to Top 20)
Ashley Callingbull is a determined competitor hoping to be the very first representative of Indigenous heritage to represent the country at Miss Universe. She has worked really hard to gain a power status in pageantry having competed at MUC 2010 (2nd runner up to Elena Semikina), Miss Humanity International 2011 (4th Runner Up) and Miss World Canada 2012 (Top 10). I think that Ashley came to MUC 2013 to win and I can definitely see it happening. Her performance was very good last night, and because I know that she has a great personality , I know that she will make the Top 5 based on that alone. I know Ashley, personally, and she’s just a lovely person. She is beautiful inside and out and she will deliver a strong competition on Saturday night. Yes, she was fast tracked into the Top 20, but it’s pretty obvious that she is Top 5 material, at least in my opinion!

RIZA SANTOS, AB
Riza is a very good friend of mine. She has worked extremely hard to transition from Miss World Canada to Miss Universe Canada and the transformation completely shows. In person, Riza’s face is perfection, she has an amazing complexion and has worked her body to full potential. Her performance last night at the preliminaries was stellar and she will continue to bring that consistency and determination to the finals on Saturday night. Although Riza is a double crown holder for Canada (Miss Earth Canada and Miss World Canada), I still think that she has what it takes to actually be the first triple crown holder for Canada. I know that she will knock that preliminary interview out of the ball park!!

DIANA MARTIN, ON
Diana’s Fadil shot is my FAVORITE. She has really upped her game since her arrival at MUC. During the GTA, I didn’t really think much of her, but she has transformed to in my opinion, the strongest delegate representing Ontario this year. If MUC wants to crown a home delegate, Diana is the only one I can see actually doing extremely well at Miss Universe. Being of Albanian descent, she would give the other girls on the international stage a run for their money and totally stand out. Her gown last night wasn’t my favorite, but I definitely see her performing even better during finals. Hopefully, she chooses a gown that will compliment her complexion and body, amazingly. In terms of swimsuit, probably the BEST out of the 57 delegates in my opinion.

SIERA BEARCHELL, SK (Best Runway Model – Fast Tracked to Top 20)
Siera is a newbie to the MUC pageant, but comes with great experience. Having won the Miss Teen Canada World pageant and modeling experience, it came to no surprise to see her bag the runway model award last night. Siera is one of the most determined and well prepared delegates competing for the title this year. With an excellent pageant handler and the already existing talents she already possesses, Siera could downright win this whole competition. If she does, she would be a strong competitor at Miss Universe. Her performance last night was simply gorgeous and I know that she will do EXTREMELY WELL at finals on Saturday. No doubt, Top 5 material!

SARAH AINSLEY HARRISON, NS (Best in Swimsuit – Fast Tracked to Top 20)
Sarah has really brought her “A” game to the table. She has DEFINITELY improved soooooo much since last year, and I think that she will do much better this year. Having won the best body award, it’s obvious that she is in it to win it. I think that her prelim performance was good…obviously she rocked the swimsuit competition….her gown was okay for me. I thought that because she has a great body, she should’ve chosen something that would’ve fit her better. However, I don’t think that that is her finals gown anyways. Anyways, I have her in my Top 5 for sure.

So, that’s it. I’m very excited to see who will represent our country at Miss Universe. After not being in the semis since 2006, we can only hope that Canada has learned from their past mistakes and can start a different formula to make the cut. The beauties in my Top 5 are all unique from each other, but definitely stand out. All I can really hope for is a beauty that is strong enough to make the cut at Miss Universe. I don’t even care if we win the title, just as long as we can dabble our feet back on stage. I wish nothing but the best to all the girls, nonetheless. I think they all have done a fantastic job in representing themselves. Let’s see who will be Miss Universe Canada 2013!

Subject: MISS WORLD CANADA 2013: FINAL PREDICTIONS

Date Posted: 13:38:09 05/09/13 Thu

Tonight is the night where we crown the new Miss World Canada who will represent our country at the Miss World competition later on this year. After having followed the pageant (as much as I possibly could), I’ve come up with my final predictions. First of all, this year was more competitive in terms of the calibre of beauty that was represented last year. I think that there are many definite standouts that would be the perfect for the title. HOWEVER, we all know that the most deserving girl, doesn’t always win the title. With that being said, here are my final predictions for the Miss World Canada title.

First, the fast tracks were announced yesterday at the preliminaries (these girls automatically enter the semis):
TOP MODEL: Camille Munro
PEOPLE’S CHOICE: Tamara Jemuovic
BEST NATIONAL COSTUME: Gina Ruperti
BEAUTY WITH A PURPOSE: Anastasia Lin
TALENT: Nicole Johnston
FITNESS: Kara Granger

REST OF THE TOP 10 PREDICTION:
1. Alexis Scagliano
2. Anastasia Frolov
3. Chesley Mori
4. Kara Duncan
5. Megan Newell
6. Melissa Francis
7. Michelle Apples
8. Sofiya Chorniy
9. Vartika Sharma
10. Tanya Virk

MY TOP 5:
4TH RUNNER UP: Tamara Jemuovic
I think that Tamara has a lot of appeal. She’s obviously attractive and it is evident that she wants to win this title. Having competed at Miss Teen Canada Globe, I think that this pageant is definitely a steeping stone for her to build her pageant career. However, I do not think her beauty is suited to Miss World. It’s more appealing to Miss Universe Canada, so I think she would excel much higher there.

3RD RUNNER UP: Tanya Virk
Having had the opportunity to work with Tanya, I think that she is definitely someone who fits the Miss World image. This is her very major first pageant and I think she has done an amazing job in representing herself. She has a very beautiful face which gives me a Priyanka Chopra aura. Of course there’s always room for improvement, but I would not at all be surprised to see her take it all.

2ND RUNNER UP: Anastasia Frolov
Anastasia placed in the Top 10 of MWC 2 years ago. She’s returned to the pageant stronger than ever. The only thing I think that might stop her from winning the title, is being a little shy. I want to see her personality more, and if she presents that to the viewer, there’s absolutely NO STOPPING her. She’s gorgeous, and I think she would do amazing in the international arena.

1ST RUNNER UP: Kara Granger
From Vancouver, Kara is the only local who has the potential to win the title. She’s tall, she’s striking, she has a great body and completely fits the MWO image. Because Miss World Canada last year hailed from BC, I’m thinking that the title will head to the east. This is the only reason why she may lose the title. Otherwise, she’s easily a strong contender.

MISS WORLD CANADA 2013: Sofiya Chorniy
From Ontario, Sofiya has everything it takes to bring Canada back to the final. I met her last night….very gorgeous lady, beautiful face….natural…tall….What more could we ask for in a rep. She’s a ball of fire who I think would do very well in the international arena. Her beauty is perfectly suited for Miss World, and I know for a fact that Julia Morley would love her. It is also an advantage for her, since it’s been a while since Ontario won the title. All in all, I think she may be the one to beat tonight…..

Any of the Top 5 girls could win the title. It’s all a matter of how they present themselves and what kind of an impact they leave on the judges. It may be “anyone’s” game….but I think that these 5 ladies are the cream of the crop. Nonethless, good luck to all the ladies that put their efforts in. They’re already winners!

First and foremost, I have to commend the MWC team for recruiting a record of more than 30 delegates this year – that’s great progress considering lower numbers within the past few years. I have to say, I think the competition is pretty strong this year and will be a little more difficult to determine who will take the title on May 9th. I can’t really go by the photos posted on the website, simply because some official shots are more airbrushed than others. However, I do think that a good percentage of these ladies actually look like their photos. Especially since we have access to their youtube links. Nonetheless, I’m think that the winner of Miss World Canada 2013, will come from this select group of 10 ladies, that I have chosen based on what I have accessible to me via the internet.

So here is my “fearless” forecast of who I think will make the cut this year”

TOP 10:

Elizabeth Ojeil from Quebec, is a very sweet looking girl. In addition to that, she has a very beautiful face which I think is her strongest asset. Newfoundland’s, Megan Newell has that girl-next-door beauty that I very often admire, simply because she is like a blank canvas that could be worked into a masterpiece. She also possesses natural beauty which will make stand out, amongst the over-done up candidates! From Burnaby, BC, Alexis Scigliano looks like she has a great personality. Being from BC automatically gives her a little bit of an advantage, but on the contrary, she will have to work just as hard to win the title. I like her a lot. Vancouver, BC’s, Michelle Apples easily stood out from this group of ladies. Amongst having one of the best headshots on the site, she actually looks like that in candid photos as well. Probably one of the strongest blond contestants this year. I believe that Kara Duncan is from Alberta (I could be wrong), but is so, is excellent representation of that province. She looks very exotic and I have no doubts that she will look just as amazing in person, when she arrives to compete at MWC.

TOP 5 (in no particular order):

TANYA VIRK
A classic Indian beauty, Tanya has everything it takes to penetrate the Top 5. She had previously competed at Miss India Canada, and with that experience, I’m sure she will use it to her advantage. In addition, she is tall and has some modelling experience underneath her belt. She has an excellent walk and she just possesses the effortless beauty, that I think will stand out at this year’s pageant.

ANASTASIA FROLOV
Anastasia is a stunner that had competed back in 2011 (when Riza Santos took the title). This year, she’s back an stronger than ever. This girl is EASILY Top 5 material, and her recent photos show what she’s been doing her homework. Having competed in the system previously will definitely boost her chances, but it’s not like she needs it. She’s a gorgeous competitor of whom I expect, to do extremely well next month.

TAMARA JEMUOVIC
I don’t know much about Tamara, but judging from her photos and candids, this girl is beautiful. Apparently she had competed in the MTCW systems, so that alone is automatic experience. She looks beautiful and I can definitely see her doing very well at the pageant.

RAZIEH HEKMAT
I’m not sure what Razieh’s ethnicity is (I’m thinking Persian), but she’s is an exotic stunner. From Vancouver, BC, I think that she will definitely be a force to reckon with. Persian beauties tend to do very well in pageantry as we’ve had a few ladies represent Canada in the international pageant scene; Nazanin Afshin-Jam, Ramona Amiri, Samantha Tajik, Sahar Biniaz, etc. Could Razieh be the next ambassador of beauty to represent Canada in the international pageant scene? Most definitely. Watch out for this beauty!!!

KARA GRANGER
Finally, we have the gorgeous Kara Granger from Vancouver, BC. I have to admit, this girl is extremely stunning and is also, a TOTAL contender for the title. She’s tall, naturally beautiful and looks gorgeous in both her photos, and in person. I think that she has a great shot at the title, and would not at all be surprised to see her take the competition by storm.

So there you have it. I’m most likely going to be at the pageant this year, but I’m not sure. Nonetheless, this is always a weird pageant because you never know who will emerge victorious. But I just hope that the MWC organization will choose a girl that will actually place at Miss World this year. We’ll have to wait and see what happens!

In three short weeks, Sahar Biniaz will be crowning her successor as the next Canadian Ambassador of beauty. Who amongst these 60 delegates will be crowned Miss Universe Canada 2013? Well, in all honesty this year seems to be a lot weaker in terms of competition, than in the past…BUT, there are some very obvious stand outs who could easily do well in the international competition. With a transformation and some hard work, we could very well see a Miss Universe placement, FINALLY, after Alice Panikian in 2006. With that being said here are the girls that I think have a good chance in placing.

I’ve only chosen 10 ladies (in no particular order), simply because they are the ones who truly stand out to me at this point. This will obviously change once we see the preliminaries.

ALBERTA, Kathryn Kohut
From the pictures I’ve seen so far, Kathryn is one sexy lady. All the photos of her involve some type of modelling in different bikinis. We can easily see that one of her strongest assets is her physical shape. Facially, she’s also very strong in that department so I think that she will definitely stand out in this particular group of ladies. I don’t quite see her winning the title just yet, but she definitely has the potential to do so.

ONTARIO, Alexandra Matthews
Alexandra started “liking” my photos on instagram prior to her GTA. I did a little creeping and I was surprised to see that she was an delegate competing for a delegate spot in MUC. There’s something about Alexandra that I really like. I find her very elegant and poised. I thought that her evening gown during the GTA’s was gorgeous and she totally stood out. She does however, need to continue to tone up for MUC, but other than that, I like her overall look. I’ve seen quite a few of her candid photos, and she is a very naturally, pretty girl. I think she’s going to make an impact!

ONTARIO, Michelle McKay
Michelle is another one of those delegates I know very little of. But on the contrary, this girl has an amazing body and takes an excellent photograph. She’s very photogenic! Based on the pictures I’ve seen so far, I think that she will make the Top 12. If she has an outgoing personality and is very personable, then I’m sure the organization would love to put another Ontario girl in the Top 5. Nonetheless, Michelle looks very pretty overall.

ONTARIO, Sarah Faraone
Sara was one of my choices for the GTA preliminaries, and it’s easy to see why. Aside from having a gorgeous face and a great body, she truly is one of the stronger competitors coming from the GTA. I can only see potential based on photos, simply because I don’t know what her personality is like. Appearance wise, she looks great and I expect to see her name called into the Top 12 based on that, alone.

ONTARIO, Denise Garrido
Denise is the first of our two double crown holders competing at Miss Universe Canada this year. She was an obvious stand-out at the GTA pageant, probably with the most stunning face in her court. Personally, although Denise has a lot of work in physical aspect of the competition, she is one of the strongest delegates, facially. She has an infectious beauty, that you can’t help but stare at her. I’ve met her in person, and she’s lovely, tall and striking. I think that if she continues to transform her body, she will be a force to reckon with in the international arena. My only concern about her, is the fact that she has held the titles of MWC and MEC, so I don’t know how MUC will feel about that. But as an overall competitor, Denise is gorgeous and we should easily see her amongst the Top 12.

ALBERTA, Riza Santos
Riza Santos is UNDENIABLY, the most gorgeous Asian delegate competing at the pageant this year. There is absolutely no way that she’ll be missing the Top 12. Riza is a very well seasoned delegate with the potential to do big things at an international pageant…BUT, like Denise Garrido, she too, has also had two opportunities to represent Canada at in international competition; Miss World and Miss Earth. This could be a disadvantage for her, because MUC may want some new blood representing them internationally, but I have to be honest. Even though Riza is a double crown holder, she simply is too strong of a competitor to be snubbed and I would question MUC, if that were to happen. I love Riza and I am cheering for her all the way. I just hope that the judges at MUC, give her that opportunity to prove that she is more suited for Miss Universe. In terms of her overall look, she’s been working really hard to look amazing, and I know that when she arrives at the competition, she will be an instant front runner for the title. Easily a competitor to keep an out on, because she’s more than ready to take on the challenge!

ALBERTA, Ela Mino
Oh Ela! I was so shocked that she did not make the Top 20 last year. I don’t expect that to happen this year. In fact, because MUC has sent Ela to some minor pageant overseas, I’m assuming that they have been prepping her to do well this year, so we should expect to see a stronger, fiercer competitor. Those pageants gave her the experience to build on what she may have been lacking on last year. With that being said, in my opinion, Ela is, if not, the most naturally beautiful delegate competing this year. Her facial beauty is what completely stands out to me. She already has a great body, so I don’t expect to see her falter there. What I would love to see Ela bring to the stage is a more confident and sexy walk. I want her to own the stage like there’s no one else competing. I think that if she has done her homework, Ela will definitely be one to watch out for.

SASKATCHEWAN, Siera Bearchell
Siera is also new to the Miss Universe Canada pageant but comes with loads of experience. After winning the Miss Teen Canada World competition a few years back, I think Siera will be a definite force to reckon with at MUC. She looks like she has a very infectious personality that draws people in. Her look is very commercial, yet versatile that she could pull off any look. In addition, I’ve seen some instagram photos of her physical preparation and the girl has an AMAZING body. Based on those factors alone, she will place. I know for a fact that Siera will have a great team behind her, because I know who her handler is. Her handler is one of the most knowledgeable and amazing people, I’ve met in the Canadian Pageant industry. Siera will be a force to reckon with and because she already possesses the beauty, experience and personality, this should be an easy placement for her.

NOVA SCOTIA, Sarah Ainsley Harrison
Top 12 last year, and hoping to repeat that placement or surpass it, I think that Sarah could very well do that this year. Aside from having such an amazing body, Sarah has a very striking presence and possesses the height to be super competitive. I like Sarah a lot, and I definitely think she will be more prepared this year. In terms of her angles, however, I would like to see her experiment with that, just to avoid highlighting some of her strong features. Overall, Sarah looks very prepared to take on the challenges and looks ready to fight for a Top 5 spot, if the cards align for her.

ONTARIO, Lidija Vaskovic
Lidija in my opinion, is an underdog waiting to pounce. Her official headshot on the website is very deceiving because you cannot really tell what she looks like. After sparking my intrigue, I decided to look her up to see what photos I could find, and this girl is a knock out. In fact, this is her first year competing at MUC, and she totally fits the typical standard that the organization has rewarded in the past. Lidija is the tall, gorgeous, Eastern European who hails from Ontario and that is her biggest advantage. In addition to this, it doesn’t hurt that the girl is stunning, has a great body and looks great in candids. I have a good feeling about her!

ALBERTA, Ashley Callingbull
I am so excited for Ashley Callingbull. I was a huge fan of hers back in 2010, when she had competed against Elena Semikina. Although, Ashley had finished in 3rd place, I was hoping that she would one day make her way back to the MUC stage. After a 2 year hiatus from the pageant, Ashley returns stronger than ever before. I had the opportunity to meet her at Miss World Canada, where she competed against eventual winner, Tara Teng….and I was shocked that Ashley didn’t even make the Top 5. But it all worked out for the best, because in my opinion, Ashley is perfectly suited for Miss Universe. She has the exotic, Indigenous beauty that I know would be super competitive at Miss Universe. She’s has the competitive height, that would easily make her stand out, and to top it all off, she’s been working really hard both mentally and physically for this competition. I think Ashley has a great shot at this title, and there’s absolutely no doubt that she will make the cut.

I’m looking forward to seeing their arrival photos. I’m sure this list will change, but as of now, these are the ladies I can see wearing that MUC crown!

Chelsea Bird, a semi-finalist at the recently held Miss Universe Canada competition and winner of the “Best Body”award, will represent Canada during the 2012 Miss Tourism Queen International competition to be held in Beijing, China, December 28th. This pageant, best known as Miss TQI, reunites over 100 women from all over the world and some of the most famous tourism regions.

Chelsea is a 23-year old student of TV and radio broadcasting from Edmonton. She is working towards using her love of theatre and drama to teach children how to command the stage, and reap the benefits that stage acting can give.

Chelsea is a very community-minded individual and is someone who always sets her goals bigger and bigger in order to achieve a rich and fulfilling life. She has travelled to Thailand, Europe and the United States and hopes to see much more of the world in order for her to see and help other cultures that are not as fortunate as Canadians.

Chelsea believes strongly that everyone is entitled to live a full life and has volunteered for the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada by canvassing, has provided school supplies to children while in Thailand, and after going on a 3 month exchange to Germany, has spoken to students about the wonderful opportunities that students can gain by travelling.

Cynthia Loewen from the Miss Teen Canada World 2010 top 12 under the direction and training of MTC-W and the amazing Michelle Weswaldi is making waves and is in a very good position to bring home the crown :)

(i hope I managed the html right this time to post the pic I seem to have a real struggle with that lol)

Sahar Biniaz no longer able to represent Canada in Miss Universe

Statement released by Beauties of Canada, license holders for the Miss Universe pageant about recent events:

Due to unforeseen personal circumstances. Sahar Biniaz, Miss Universe Canada 2012, will no longer be able to represent the country at the 2012 Miss Universe pageant taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada, December 19th.

She will be replaced by her 1st runner-up, Adwoa Yamoah from Calgary, who has taken the responsibility to compete for Canada in such short notice.

Beauties of Canada wishes Sahar a fast recovery to continue her duties as Miss Universe Canada and best of luck to our new representative, Adwoa!

Considering the fact that 26 year old, Adwoa Yamoah had very little preparation before finding out that she would be representing Canada at Miss Universe 2012, she's doing an excellent job in making things happen. Here are her official photos on the Miss Universe website. Thank you for your hard work, and good luck in the preliminaries this Thursday!

Kesiah Kathleen Liane Papasin, 4th runner-up in the Miss Universe Canada 2012 competition, is representing Canada at the Miss Continente Americano (Miss American Continent) pageant in Guayaquil, Ecuador. Kesiah is 21 years old, born and raised in Toronto, Ontario.

When she was 13, while attending the 2004 Canadian Model and Talent Convention (CMTC) in Toronto, Kesiah met Natalie Glebova, Miss Universe 2005. She was captured by Miss Glebova’s beauty and determination. Inspired and motivated by her, joining pageants became Kesiah’s passion. She remembers Miss Glebova saying, “You should join pageants and if you lose, try again till you win”. Kesiah has won several awards and titles since.

Kesiah was born with unilateral clubfoot and moderate hearing loss. She had to wear corrective braces for a year and both ears are currently aided.

Kesiah is currently in her 3rd year in Health Studies at York University aspiring to be a Physician’s Assistant. She is inspired by her parents and older brother, who are all nurses. She works every summer at a bank to help finance her dreams.

Raised in a close knit and religious family, Kesiah learned at an early age not to be judgmental and dislikes stereotyping. She believes in equal opportunity and treatment for everyone. She also believes in sharing her blessings by volunteering in fund raising activities for the underprivileged. She gives them support and respect. She remains a good role model and a proud mentor for aspiring young models.

The Miss Continente Americano finals will take place on September 29th. we wish her the best of luck. We know Canada is well represented!!!

24-year old Marta Jablonska, a semi-finalist in Miss Universe Canada and winner of the SOS Humanitarian award, has been designated to represent Canada in the Miss International 2012 beauty competition to be held in Okinawa, Japan, October 21.

Born in Warsaw, Poland, Marta came to Canada at the age of 6. Not understanding a word of English and having to learn the language quickly was the first challenge that inspired Marta to cultivate a profound interest for different cultures and languages. Marta is now fluent in Polish, English & French and is learning Spanish.

After secondary school, Marta moved to Montreal to attend McGill University. This allowed Marta to explore more of Canada’s cultural diversity and immerse herself in the francophone setting. Gifted with a creative, energetic and charismatic personality, Marta was also chosen to teach an undergraduate course as part of a special program at McGill.

Marta leaves to Japan on September 30th. Good luck!

I received a package today in the mail with no return address and I would like to share with everyone what it had. 1) It has the legal documents from the law suit between Gaspar Cruz Miss Teen World and Miss World. There is a dispute about the use of the word world. I am aware of this.
Then on lovely Orange paper it stated this
MICHELLE WESWALDI " The Fraud" You have never been a Miss Canada You do not exist in their archives ITs Time you come out of the closet! Time you stop tarnishing the Pageant Industry. SEE YOU OUT WEST AT YOUR RECRUITING PAGEANTS

Then on another Orange paper
MISS TEEN CANADA WORLD Tarnishes the pageant Industry
Could you be the Next Pageant Victim
Does the pageant you are entering have the right to use the title they are portraying? Where is your money going?
Are you sure you are entering any pageant well informed?
The attached information may be important in your decision ( refering to the Miss Teen world law suit)
The outcome of this information will be decided in March 2011
Does this information bring any questions to your mind?
Does this give you enough time to inform yourself?
Does this give enough time to get your money back
are you making the right decision

I would like to state a couple of things - One my title was Miss Canadian World and I did go to Miss World umm get the video of 1996 it is on youtube you will see me there so not sure what this person is talking about. All of the info is on the internet Wikipedia There was not a national final held but instead a competition for Miss ONtario World then I was selected by application by Chan international. That is no secrete Secondly IF for what ever reason Miss World wins against me and I have to remove the word that is no issue we will rebrand with another title. How am I a fraud? How am I tarnishing the industry.
Furthermore I have contacted the police and there will now be a investigation. I hope you wore gloves and there are no finger prints on these papers.
How are girls a victim when they enter mtcw.

Saying you will see me out west - That narrows down to where it is coming from. MWC ? But I do not want to point blame and accuse anyone I will let the police do this.
Anyhow to the person who sent this - you do not scare me everything you wrote about me and my company has no truth only the law suit with Gaspar Cruz and Miss Teen World and that really has nothing to do with me. When Miss World comes after me ( if they do ) I will deal with that - but that does not mean in anyway that we are being shut down closed - that we are doing anything bad. You are a very uneducated person and you have really gone up against the wrong person. You should focus on your own competition because you are obviously one of the pageants that people are not impressed with. Jealous? Can't wait to find out who you are and I will.
If you know anything about me, my family you would never have sent that and you would know I will find out who you are

Subject: MISS UNIVERSE CANADA: Beyond 2013

Now that our Canadian Queen has been crowned, I wish Sahar Biniaz a successful candidacy as Miss Universe Canada and hope that she is able to represent Canada in the semi-finals at the Miss Universe Pageant this coming December.

I look forard to 2013, and the future years of MUC coming up. After being very involved in this year's pageant (having had trained a Top 12 entrant), I am hoping that the BOC organization stays consistent in crowning winners from ALL ACROSS Canada, and not just Ontario. Seriously, after 10 years, the west was finally able to beat a GTA girl, and I'm very happy with that.

In addition, I'm hoping and CROSSING MY FINGERS that the following ladies will reconsider and come back to the pageant, because I believe that they will one day wear the Miss Universe Canada crown. Here they are as follows:

ASHLEY CALLINGBULL
Ashley represents the true heritage of Canada. It would be amazing to see her on the international forefront, just because she is absolutely stunning and would do CRAZY things at Miss Universe.

ALEKSANDRA MALKIN
I loved Aleksandra, and I'm hoping that she comes back one more time. I assure you that if she does compete, she will win. She is a gorgeous lady with a killer body that would knock out most of her competition.

KATIE STARKE
After seeing Katie Starke compete this year, she completely convinced me that she is DEFINITE Miss Universe material. I heard that she is finished with pageants, but I really hope that she reconsiders, because she is obviously the symbol of the classic, sophisticated Canadian beauty!

ELISHIA SAHOTA
I was really hoping that Elishia was going to win last year. In fact, I was almost 90 % positive that the title was hers. Hopefully she comes back next year, because I think that it's her last year of eligibility. Elishia is STUNNING!

JENNA TALACKOVA
I really enjoyed Jenna's performance at this year's pageant. Her choice of evening gown and the way she carried herself was executed in a confident way. I think that if she comes back in the future, she most definitely will be MAJOR competition for the other girls competing!

CHANEL BECKENLEHNER
I absolutely ADORE Chanel, but that's probable because she's one of my girls! Chanel was our rep at Miss International 2009, and she has everything it takes to be our rep at Miss Universe. I love her look and her face is stunning!

GOLNAZ HARANDI
Golnaz was one of my favorites when she competed in 2010, and I was surprised that she missed the cut-especially with a gorgeous face like hers. She could be our next exotic card to MUC and win it.

CELINA TOENZ
Another favorite of mine who was shut out in 2009, I absolutely was shocked when Celina was not called into the Top 20. I'm hoping that this time aroud, is she decides to enter MUC again, she has a little more weight put on, in addition to maturing into a bombshell!

I would be ecstatic if all of these ladies decided to join MUC at the same time! Can you imagine HOW COMPETITIVE that competition would be? It would be like Miss Universe! Nonetheless, I look forward to what MUC 2013 has to offer! But first we have to get past Miss Universe 2012.

What's up with Miss Canada International and Miss Teen Canada International both having 2 new queens with the new 2013 titles without having a pageant? I read here that 2012 queen was dethroned. Does this mean that even the 2012 queen was dethroned as well? This doesn't look good.

The broadcast will be live on this website: http://www.beautiesofcanada.com/

After viewing interviews, swimsuits and evening gowns, here is my Top 10 and how I ranked them.

10: Sarah Harisson
Age: 24 | Height: 5’11″
Hometown: Halifax, Nova Scotia

9: Vaughan Marr

Age: 23 | Height: 5’9″
Hometown: Cremona, AB

8: Jenna Talackova
Age: 23 | Height: 6’2″
Hometown: Vancouver, BC

7: Ines Kipre
Age: 23 | Height: 5’10″
Hometown: Gatineau, QC

6: Casar Jacobsen

Age: 26 | Height: 5’10″
Hometown: Vancouver, BC

TOP 5

5: Katie Starke

Age: 21 | Height: 5’11″
Hometown: Uxbridge, ON
This girl could easily win it, amazing in SS, polished in interview but not the best gown choice, I hope someone tells her to change before tomorrow.

4: Adwoa Yamoah

Age: 24 | Height: 5’9″
Hometown: Calgary, AB
This girl is a pageant PRO, after placing twice in MUC, she is clearly heading to the top 5, she made no mistakes whatsoever.

3: Chelsea Byrd

Age: 23 | Height: 5’8″
Hometown: Edmonton, AB
The SS winner at prelims and has a great EG to boot. Interview is already good, but I would preferably give her one more year and then off she goes to MU.

2: Sahar Biniaz

Age: 26 | Height: 5’8″
Hometown: Vancouver, BC
This is the main favorite to win, an all around great girl and a surefire MU semi-finalist, if it were not for Dajana's megawatt smile... She would be the Canadian version of Tahnae Harisson if she loses.

1: Dajana Radovanovic

Age: 20 | Height: 5’9″
Hometown: Toronto, ON
Wow with a capital W! Amazing body and a megawatt smile, add to that one of the best gowns in there and pleasant, easy going personality. My choice for that crown.

TORONTO - The spotlight was on transgender contestant Jenna Talackova as the Miss Universe Canada pageant kicked off in Toronto Thursday night.

The 62 contestants took to the stage for the preliminary round in swimsuits and evening gowns.

Talackova was originally disqualified from the contest because she was not a "naturally born female."

The 23-year-old from Vancouver, who underwent gender reassignment surgery when she was 19, was then reinstated by businessman Donald Trump, who owns the Miss Universe organization.

The winner will be crowned Saturday.

Subject: MISS UNIVERSE CANADA 2012 FINAL PREDICTIONS

Author:
SexyDrew82
[ Edit | View ]

Date Posted: 12:58:11 04/19/12 Thu

On May 19th, a new woman (or not-LOL!) will succeed Chelsae Durocher as Canada’s representative to the Miss Universe Pageant in December of this year. This year’s line up is not as strong as previous years, but there are definitely some stand outs vying to be Canada’s next ambassador of Beauty. In all honesty, I already have my personal favorites and I hope that they do very well in this year’s competition. This year’s pageant consists of former competitors, newbies, experienced ladies and of course, the controversial delegate that has made headlines internationally, even changing the criteria of the Miss Universe regulations. Am I looking forward to this show? HELL YAH! This is going to be one year, where I think we will all be surprised. All I can say is that I hope that the rightful woman is chosen to represent the beauty and the diversity that Canada has to offer. With that being said, here’s my Top 5, based on what I know, who’s deserving and pageant politics.

ADWOA YAMOAH
In all honesty, I believe that Adwoa deserves a spot in the final 5. Although, she has competed numerous times in the past, I think that this year she’s probably going to be very well prepared and looking her very best. She’s made the Top 10 (I think) two times, and this year I think she’ll definitely be in final 5. I don’t think she will win this year, but who knows what the judges are looking for.

KATIE STARKE
Being a former Miss Teen World Canada, competing at Beauties of Canada 2010, and representing the country at Miss International, Katie is ready to take the Universe by storm. As regal and improved as she has become, I think she needs a couple more years to really blossom. I find that she’s channelling Elena Semikina in so many of her photos and I want to see a different type of beauty represented. As well, Katie’s personality seems a little subdued, but I’m not going to lie, she is maturing beautifully. I’m pretty sure that she’s preparing like crazy because like so many, she also wants this crown. And to be honest, it could very well be hers, considering the fact that she hails from Ontario. If we look at the past 10 years, the rep has been from the east coast. If there is anyone that’s going to win the title from that side of Canada, it’s a shoo-in for Katie Starke.

JENNA TALACKOVA
Jenna represents controversy with a capital “C”. I’m not a big fan of Jenna Talackova. If I’m being honest, I have absolutely NOTHING against a transgendered woman competing in a beauty pageant. Being a gay male, I support anyone who decides to persevere against all odds, but only if it were for the right intentions. However, when the issues of discrimination came up, I was sort of confused. Just two years ago, she had competed in some Transgendered Beauty Pageant, hoping to be the best “transgendered” delegate in the world, and now she wants to compete at Miss Universe to become the most beautiful woman in the world? If she had classified herself as a woman to begin with, she wouldn’t have even bothered vying for the transgendered beauty queen title, and would’ve immediately went straight to Miss Universe Canada, if she were wanting compete to represent WOMEN. I just don’t get why she decided to do this now. It makes me wonder, if she really wanted to compete to be the most beautiful woman, or if this is all just a publicity stunt to get her 15 minutes of fame? Nonetheless, I know that Jenna will make the Top 5 at Miss Canada so that the pageant gains some popularity. But personally, I don’t think that Jenna should win the title, regardless. She may be tall, she may be a pretty delegate, but I’m just not buying her sincerity, or lack thereof, of the whole issue.

MISS UNIVERSE CANADA CHOICES:
SAHAR BINIAZ
My winner back in 2008 (against Samantha Tajik), I’m very happy to see that Sahar is back in the pageant scene giving it another go. Today, she still embodies the ferocity, the beauty and the elegance to make an impact at Miss Universe Canada this year. She’s lean, she’s poised and seems to be a really genuine person. I had the opportunity to have dessert with Miss Biniaz, a few evenings ago, and she’s a lovely person to converse with. Aside from that, she is very prepared to bring Canada back to the semis, if she is the lucky one who gets to wear the crown. I have no doubt in my mind that we will see Sahar as one of the last ladies standing.

SUZETTE HERNANDEZ
What can I say about Suzette? This girl is awesome! I would consider her to be a well-seasoned pageant competitor and she’s also one of the strongest choices for the title. Not only is Suzette fabulously exotic, she has such an amazing personality to back up her charm. Being a runway model, and having competed in previous pageants as well, Suzette has pretty much everything it takes to break into the semis at Miss Universe this year. Being a fan and admirer, Suzette is more than prepared to win this title, as she lives, breathes and acts like a pageant titleholder. Watch out for this girl, because she’s also ready to take it all. I have a gut feeling that Suzette and Sahar will be the last ones standing…….AND they’re both from Vancouver!

Now given Beauties of Canada’s Track record since 2007 (with the exception of 2010), the final two standing are usually from the East and the West.
2007: Inga Skaya (E), Ramona Amiri (W)
2008: Samantha Tajik (E), Sahar Biniaz (W)
2009: Mariana Valente (E), Ylenia Aurucci (W)
2011: Chelsae Durocher (E), Elishia Sahota (W)

Within the last 10 years, a winner from the East has been crowned, so it’s highly anticipated that a west-sider takes the title this year. The frontrunners in my opinion are Sahar and Suzette…..and Jenna.

Comprising my remaining Top 15 (in no particular order) are:

Alina Tsymbalarou
Marta Jablonska
Anna Piatrovich
Ines Kipre
Majd Soudi
Dajana Radanovic
Lisa Wong
Maria Nahri
Sarah Harrison
Diana Schoutsen
Kesiah Papasin
Alena Konovalova
Stephanie Marinus
Christine White
Natka Brestovanska

So there you have it. Since I will not be following the pageant thoroughly, this is my final predictions list. I’m hoping for the best and I can’t wait to see who will be representing Canada at the Miss Universe Pageant in May. I can only hope that the woman that is chosen will best reflect what Canada is all about, in terms of multiculturalism, diversity and of course, the traditional values of what Canada stands for. I wish all the girls, the best of luck and I hope that whoever garners this title, will bring Canada back to its glory years at Miss Universe that was started almost 13 years ago, by Alberta’s, Kim Yee.

Good luck to all the contestants!

Also, according to GlobalBeauties "the final will be webcast live".
I hope this is true and I will upload the link when it becomes available.

IN FOCUS WITH SUZETTE HERNANDEZ: THE QUEST TO MISS UNIVERSE CANADA 2012
By Andrew Alcalde

One glance at Suzette Hernandez and you are taken in by her beautiful eyes, million dollar smile and lovely personality; you are mesmerized. Her beauty has the ability to effortlessly take you in and fully engage in her aura.

Why does she look familiar, you ask? Well, Suzette has loads of experience previously competing in pageants in the Philippines. Suzette was the first runner up in Mutya Ng Pilipinas 2010. A year later, she became an official delegate for Binibining Pilipinas 2011, where she was trained by the amazing Maria Venus Raj (4th Runner Up, Miss Universe 2010) and alongside eventual winner, Shamcey Supsup (3rd Runner Up, Miss Universe 2011). But don’t be fooled! Suzette is a true blooded, all-Canadian-girl, at heart. Having gotten to know her over the past year, I can tell you that she represents everything that Canada is all about. She loves her hockey, enjoys her Tim Horton’s donuts and is “blasphemized” when someone uses Aunt Jemima on their pancakes over Canadian maple syrup. If that’s not Canadian, I don’t know what is!

Having emigrated from Lemery, Batangas at a very young age, Suzette grew up Richmond, BC. She completed her high school education at Gladstone and continues to strive for her degree in business at the University of British Columbia. When she’s not hitting the books, she’s hitting the runway as a freelance ramp-model. Suzette has modelled for Vancouver Fashion Week, every year since 2007, with the exception of this year so that she could focus on the Miss Universe Canada Competition. In her owns words, she is ready to represent the true diversity of Canada in addition to highlighting her proudly Pinoy roots. Many of you will remember Suzette as Candidate #35 at Binibining Pilipinas 2011. Well, Suzette looks at that experience as a stepping stone into the woman she has become today. Competing at Binibining Pilipinas was an experience that opened her eyes to self-evolution and betterment and is completely aware of what she needs to do, this time around. As you can see, Suzette has been training for this to the best of her ability, and damn! It shows!

In addition to her preparation, Suzette has always been well rounded in philanthropy, volunteering her time with fundraisers such as Habitat for Humanity, Dress for Success Vancouver and The Batangas Club of British Columbia throughout the years. More recently, Suzette had organized a successful “Fashion Charity Show” fundraising proceeds to the SOS Children’s Villages Nicaragua with a very successful outcome. At the end of the day, Suzette’s ambition is to continue to use her positive influence within her community and hopefully, if fortunate to be crowned MUC 2012, empower and make a difference in this world.

So why do I feel that Suzette is the ideal candidate to represent Miss Universe Canada 2012? In my honest opinion, I feel that a titleholder should embody not only the natural beauty, intelligence and the physicality of a well groomed, versatile “beauty queen”, but she must also possess a genuine and REAL personality. Time and time again, we’ve seen delegates represent their countries, or better yet, themselves, and come across as completely fake personified. The best qualities that any competitor should possess is a strong sense of confidence, focus, morality and sincerity. That is what makes her stand out from the rest of the competition. I’m not going to lie, beauty plays the most important role in a pageant , hence the title “beauty pageant” but add the above mentioned qualities and you have yourself a true winner.

From my perspective, Suzette undoubtedly embodies these qualities and much, much more. Through the eyes of her family and friends, she has EVERYTHING IT TAKES to be your next Miss Universe Canada, and she is more than prepared to do her best this coming Sunday, May 19th. I have no problems standing behind Suzette as her number one supporter, because I know how much this means to her. She really is a woman of substance and it is evident in everything she does in her life. Suzette is motivated, determined and fully prepared to represent the Beauties of Canada Organization this year, if she is given that opportunity.

I asked her this question: How will you persevere throughout the Miss Universe Canada Pageant and distinguish yourself to conquer the overall title?

Suzette: I will persevere and distinguish myself throughout the pageant to conquer the title, simply by continuing to be the positive role model that I have been all of my life. I believe that hard work and determination always pays off and in this case, I have been working very hard to prepare for this pageant. Canada, I am ready to demand that attention you so rightfully deserve and bring us back to the Miss Universe stage, if given this remarkable opportunity!

Winning answer, I must say

In conclusion, I just wanted to share with you why I believe in her so much. We all have our favorites for the title and everyone here will be bias to their opinions. I am proud to say that Suzette happens to be mine! She truly is someone that I can see making everyone in her life proud (regardless of whether or not she wins the title), but above all, bringing our country back to the Miss Universe semi-finals. In a bevy of exotic beauties competing at the pageant this year, Suzette will definitely stand out at the International level. Suze (as I call her), is more than ready to compete at MUC and once you see her in motion, you’ll “get it”.

Suzette Hernandez is my number one choice, she is my Miss Universe Canada 2012.

Brockville's Danielle Murphy is competing for her second time in the Miss Universe Canada pageant coming up in May. This time around Murphy hopes to meet every contestant and be more confident on the stage.

Second try at crown for local beauty
By MEGAN BURKE The Recorder and Times

She wanted it even more after being sent home.

Brockville's Danielle Murphy, 21, is heading back for a second time to compete for the crown in the 2012 Miss Universe Canada pageant.

“When I was done and came home last year I just wanted to keep striving,” said Murphy, who recently graduated from Algonquin College.

“When I came home, I wanted it even more.”

Murphy took part in the 2011 pageant, ending her run following the preliminary round. Out of all the women who competed last year, only Murphy, and possibly one contestant from the Vancouver area, will return to try again.

Because of her past experience, she did not have to go through the rounds of interviews and was granted a pass to the finals.

“I know what I want to do better this year and improve on so I hope I can get to a better spot, we'll see,” Murphy said. “I want to be more confident on stage. Last year I was very nervous and my nerves were getting to me.”

A regret from competing last year for Murphy was not having the chance to meet everyone in the pageant – something she will make sure of this year.

“I want to embrace everything we're doing. If I come home with that I'll be happy. I'm happy already just to be able to experience it again,” she said, adding that ultimately her goal is to win.

With Murphy all the way is her supportive family who also attended the pageant last year.

“They loved going last year, especially my brother. He liked seeing all the other girls. My boyfriend's family was also very supportive.”

This year they remain in her corner having helped her find her pageant dress. Murphy didn't initially know what she was looking for in a gown but lucked out – her mom and boyfriend's mom picked the winner, even though Murphy said no to it at first glance.

“When I was in the changeroom they brought it to me. When I put it on I fell in love with it and wouldn't try on anything else.”

Her dress will be revealed during the pageant which takes place in the middle of May.

Coming out of the pageant last year, Murphy was contacted by top modelling agency MMG Canada who signed her to a contract. She has since been working on projects with them.

Other than the competition, Murphy returns for the charity aspect of the pageant as well, hoping she can work with the SOS Children's Fund for another year. This past weekend Murphy held a rock concert fundraiser in downtown Ottawa for the charity.

As with last year, Murphy is looking for her city's support to win the People's Choice Award, which would automatically send her to the top 20 finals. A person can vote for Murphy up to four times daily online at www.beautiesofcanada.com.

Murphy leaves for Toronto on May 11 to prepare. Preliminary competition runs May 17 with the finals scheduled for May 19.

I was not allowed to enter as the organization told me they were only accepting 20 entrants. I also found a press release online saying one of the finalists was honoured to be in the selected "20 finalists". Well I see there are 30 entrants now on their website. I wish they could just be honest with girls as opposed to being deceitful. They told me the entrance fee was $3000 but some of the girls I know who enquired were told $995, others paid $1495. One of my friends is going and they put her age as 23 when she is 25.

I just triped over the MUC 2004 pageant on YouTube - Here is the link - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MhP-pAhb8mM. I just have to say that production was the best MUC ever produced. We had Alan as the MC, A Miss Universe Appearance and the stage was incredible!

No only that, they had a welcome dinner with a stage that welcomed all the contestants one by one, really seemed as high caliber as Miss USA!

The last few years i dont think has the same quality in stage & production. I think the pageant itself is great! Just wish we had more glitz and glam!!

What do you guys think???
