Subject: Best of luck to Canadian Reps at Miss United Nations Author: Christi [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] Date Posted: 00:20:34 11/06/10 Sat Michaela who is representing Canada in the Teen division and Crystal who is representing North America in the Miss division, who are both from Winnepeg, will be leaving for the Miss United Nations pageant in Jamaica in the morning. I know this is not a big 4 pageant but the girls deserve support and well wishes especially after everything they have had to endure to get to go to this pageant. I dont believe anything he did reflects on the international pageant. As far as I understand they were taken too, but we also have to give opportunity to let the dust settle, remember there is always fall out after a pageant. There are alot of people talking about what a crappy guy this is, and how he didn't pay the hotel or something along those lines, but what EXACTLY happened? Leon was the national host, Cathy owns the pageant. I 'believe' Leon bought the franchise rights to hold the event in Jamaica, was supposed to arrange hotel, food, events, either by sponsorship or to pay for himself with delegates entry fees. Naturally some of the fees would go to the head office as they supply the crowns and sashes but from what I understand he didnt pay the hotel bill and it is questionable if the delegates were fed. From what it sounds like he vanished halfway through & the delegates, and others pulled teh show together in spite of his actions. Im not sure how much of a role Cathy, the owner played in making sure the event came off successfully either but it seems as though one of the delegates really wants to blame her as well. I worked very closely with the girls to help them get there since thier 'director' dropped out of sight instead of coming through as promised. As I said, they had a wonderful experience, but the host/director who was responsible for the event in Jamaica really dropped the ball. I have no doubt that the pageant owners were unaware of his lack of organization but it was in fact less than what they would have expected for thier brand. There were 3 delegates in the teen category, 3 in the Mrs/Ms, 1 in Elite and 7 in Miss. Many more were registered but doid not show up for one reason or another. One of the Mrs delegates dropped out the first day and went on a holidays instead of competing.
