Gene, the Hot Foot is a super-hot DD design, with the wires glued into place on a foam pad. This construction method prevents the "wire migration" problem somewhat inherent in epoxy-filled coils, and thus also gives greater sensitivity, but, since the wires are more "loose" then there is more potential for false signalling when you hit something with the coil. Swing slower, and take greater care to not hit rocks. Slower is better anyway. By the way, today I learned the "straight skinny" on the new White's coil. It is epoxy-filled, thus less prone to sound off when you hit something with it, but is not as sensitive, or as deep, as the Hot Foot. It is expected that the "Mini-DD" (real name to be decided upon) will get 60% to 65% as much depth as the standard DD, and should have about the same sensitivity (perhaps a bit more) to small bits as is the standard DD. They should be out soon. If you can "put up" with the occaisional false signalling of the Hot Foot when smacking rocks, then you will get about 1/3 more depth, and cover 1/3 more ground per sweep, than you would with the Mini DD. But it has to be remembered that both such coils are "specialty" coils, and as such have their own advantages and disadvantages. I like the Hot Foot and Hot Shot coils; but a few people don't. Hope this helps; HH Jim
