What a great story, Miz Patsy. I think that cop showed you a thing or three about the fact that most of them are just human beings trying to do a difficult job. Most police officers carry those teddy bears in their trunks, donated by civic organizations to be used with the smallest victims of crime and tragedy... children.
The idea started with two police officers in Houston who purchased the teddy bears out of their own funds from a wholesaler in their town. A reporter got hold of the story and told it well though the two officers wanted to remain anonymous and didn't do it for publicity. The officers wanted to be able to do something for the kids they encountered in the line of duty, children of victims of murder, assaults, violent crimes of all types, fatal or serious automobile accidents and the young witnesses to adults acting like fools in front of their kids. Sometimes the kids were even the children of suspects and wrongdoers the officers were forced to take into custody. Those cops felt empathy for those children and didn't want to make future problems for themselves. The teddy bear idea was their way of helping future generations deal with today's problems in a positive way.
I think the cop who stopped you and gave you the teddy bear found his own way of telling you that he was pulling for you. We all are. Let gravity have its way with you and keep the seat belt unbuckled until you can recover. Wear your loose, white cotton t-shirt proudly. It makes a fashion statement about your valuse to all of us here. Hug that teddy bear each night and, if you've a mind to do so, whisper a little prayer for that officer. You see, many police officers who are killed in the line of duty (around 38% at last count) are cut down in the course of what seemed only to be a simple traffic stop.
Most police departments issue officers weapons, uniforms and some even supply body armor, though most officers have to buy their own. It seems the Big Guy issued your cop a loving, caring, human heart.
Big Guy, on behalf of our friend, Miz Patsy, and her police officer benefactor... thanks! We needed that.
Can I get an "A-men?"
