To answer that question 1st, no, I don't pack lunch every day, although I try.

True. I am trying to budget better though, and unless I eat only gourmet food from home, it is still a lot less than eating out. Canned soup is the one exception, since one can may be as much as $3.

I guess I should state up front that I do not count calories and I do not count fat grams. I am trying to eat based on what I know is healthy. I am preparing to write down what I eat and make changes, but since I am still in the contemplation stage, moving toward preparation (Read "Changing for Good" by Prochaska), I am not actually doing any of this yet.

My two cents on that one is that even if the ranch dressing is really scary, if that is your only fat intake for the day you are probably not eating *enough* fat. IMHO.

could you keep a container of dressing at work? That way, since it is yours, you would know what you are getting on that front.

Although I know avacado is high is fat, don't forget that vegetable fat is processed differently by the body than animal fat. Not an excuse to eat avacadoes every day, but still not the same as bacon at all.

Why don't you try cutting up a chicken breast at home one night. Based on the weight of that piece of meat, and how it looks cut up, you might have a good idea...

Other ideas: I keep cans of tuna and rye krisp at work. Tastes good, I can bring the cut carrots from home, and I keep a small container of low fat mayo in the fridge at work. I also keep vegetarian sausage in the fridge so that I have a healthy snack with protein when I need one. They keep a couple of weeks...

Hope this helps.
