Agreed, as kids we were out in the sun all the time too, and even applied baby oil to facilitate our tans! Since that time, though, there is much research to support that exposure to the sun/UV greatly increases your chances of skin cancer/melanoma.

Here's a link to check any day you are concerned about the UV index in our area. The Weather Channel Sun Safety Advisor.
Today, for example, there is a UV index of 10+ (the highest) and someone in the sun is exposed to 9 times the amount of radiation that could cause substantial skin damage.

Why take the risk?
