Subject: "you're born with a clean slate" ? are you?

is one mind inherently the same as the next? Is one body the same as the next, obviously not. We even talk about how little children take after their parents, this bit from mum, this bit from dad.

the idea that we are born with a clean slate has it's origin in common sense - we don't need the brain scans that show an infant brain is a blob of jelly and we don't need the brain scans that show it progressively gets more wrinkled as we age, it happens in waves that start from the base of the brain and finish at the front where we make decisions. Hence insurance premiums drop for drivers at the age of 25, when the wave of wrinkling that started off in puberty completes, the actuaries knew they could drop the premium at 25 from road accident statistics long before brain scans.

but the idea that we are born with a clean slate goes into another realm when we think it means you can choose not to be gay, however hard you work, however well treated you are.
