I think that it is important to cater certain activities to certain groups of people, more so in the academic area than anywhere else. It would be a little silly to have a "how to study" activity for a residence hall with mainly graduate students. However, it would be good to ask those residents to participate as presenters for another hall with a lot of freshmen. Social/Community building activities can be a good way to get everyone in the community out to meet eachother. Except for the people I meet in my department, I find that I am more likely to talk about school related subject with people I have met socially. Older students can sometimes seem intimidating to the younger ones in other situations. Social situations may be the only time when these people would have a reason to talk to each other.
