Chapter 3
In Subway-
They all order their food, and sit down at 3 booths 1 with Jarell and Dayah on one side, Dreux and Candice on the other side, the other booth with Tracy and Mario on one side and Jhene on the other, and the last booth with Christen and Omari sitting on the same side
Jarell- so Dayah, you got a man?
Dayah- (lying through her teeth) no, why?
Jarell- I’m just wondering
Dayah- oh, well (looking in his eyes) now you don’t have to wonder anymore
Dreux- Candice, you got a nigga?
Candice- yea, about 10 of em, right now
Dayah- cause you know she a playa
Candice- fo life! What about you Dreux, do you have a girl?
Dreux- oh a few, well there’s Janet, and Tamera, oh she was fine, and then the week before that, there was Angela…
Candice- (interrupts) ok, we get the point
Dreux- sorry, you asked
Jhene- (babbling on) so you know, we were talking, and then he asked me for my number, and I was a little skeptical about giving it to him, but then I decided yea I should, so I gave it to him and then we were talking about my jersey and
Tracy- (cutting her off)- and blah, blah, blah, will you shut up?!!
Jhene- exscuse me?
Tracy- you heard me, I did not stt, sstt, stutter
Jhene- well when I knock a couple of your teeth out, you will be stuttering
Tracy- say what, trick?
Jhene- you deaf? You heard me!
(By now, everyone is looking and listening)
Mario- Tracy, Jhene calm down
Tracy- you better tell her to calm down
Christen- I’m telling both of y’all to calm down
Jhene- you know what? I don’t need this
Tracy- and we don’t need you, especially all up on our men!
Dayah- Tracy, I’ma be the one to tell you, you way outta line
Dreux- fa sho
Candice- Dreux, be quiet, before she starts going there with you
Tracy- you know what? I’ll go there with you, Candice
Christen- Tracy, shut up
Mario- you know what? Let’s just go back to school, come on, Tracy
Omari- what you mean, ‘come on, Tracy?’ you rode in my car, and I ain’t done eating
Mario- so what I’m supposed to do?
Christen- just let Mario drive your car, and you can ride back with me, Omari
Dreux- and Jhene, you’ll ride back with me
Omari- aight
Christen- so, now that all that action is over, let’s get back to what we were talking about, how was Spanish?
Omari- I didn’t understand a word she said, she even called roll in Spanish
Christen- well (mimicking Omari) ‘ I could help you with homework and last minute studying and stuff like that, if you’re not too busy, you know not like a tutor, but a study buddy.’ (She laughs)
Omari- oh so you clownin, now? (Notices her smile)
Christen- no, what are you looking at?
Omari- you, you have such a pretty smile
Christen- thanks so do you
(Omari and Christen stare into each other’s eyes dreamily)
Dreux and Candice- (interrupting) ya’ll ready to roll?
Christen (pulling out of her trance) yea, let’s go
(They empty their trash and leave)
In Christen’s Car-
Omari- (looking for a CD)- so what’s up with this nomination?
Christen- it’s just a little homecoming queen thing, nothing big
Omari- what you mean, nothing big? You’re gonna get it
Christen- you’re pretty confident for someone who just met me
Omari- well, you know,
Christen- let me see your Spanish book, so I can make sure that ya’ll are studying the same thing I did
Omari- ok (pulls out the Spanish book from his bag)
Christen- take the wheel (looks in book, slips a piece of paper with her number in it in the book) ok, here ya go
Omari- aight, so you gon’ help me?
Christen- sure, why not?
(They pull back into school)
(School continues, after school, everybody is chilling in the commons)
Christen- well ya’ll I’m boust to be out
Danele- (school hoe, walks up behind Christen so that she is beside Omari) good, bye
Christen- oh, look who it is the EBT poster child!
Danele- whatever, (turns to Omari)- hi, I’m Danele, and you are?
Omari-(under his breath)- uninterested (fake smile)- I’m Omari
Danele- hmmm, nice to meet you
Omari- you too. (disses her and walks over to Christen) so I’ll talk to you soon?
Christen- sooner than you think, make sure you look over that spanish book (smiles)
I’ll see ya’ll tomorrow, Tracy call me, Peace
(Everyone says bye to Christen, the boys notice Omari at his locker looking dazed)
Dreux- whassup, man?
Jarell- yea, you looking all lost
Omari- Christen slipped me the digits
Mario- oh fa real? (looks at paper)
Omari- her handwriting is so pretty, just like her
Dreux- this nigga is sprung and he ain’t even got her yet
Omari- oh believe me I’m working on it
Mario- man let’s roll
(they say bye to the girls and they leave, they look around for Jhene, but see her riding in Timmy’s mustang with her hair flowing in the wind, the girls step outside just in time to see Timmy and Jhene)
Candice- they look cute together
Dayah- yea I’m not gon’ hate, they do
Tracy- (looking evil) whatever, I’m out, are ya’ll rolling?
Candice and Dayah- yea, let’s go
(They go to Tracy’s Dodge Neon, and drive off, the boys get in Omari’s Prelude and Dreux’s Avalon and leave)
