"I'm gonna say introducing Christ is a red herring for this topic. Otherwise we need talk about His role with government, and churches' roles therein. Before you know we'll be off topic."

I only said that because some things are important...other things are not.

Let me see if I can explain this better....
I try to be a follower of Christ.
I try to do as He would have me do..dosnt always work but I am trying and will be trying for the rest of my life and beyound before I get it right....if then..

When I ask if it is important to Christ I am asking should it be important enough to us to spend time on it?
I agree there are some things that are important...like abortion(protecting innocent life). Protecting our freedoms, freedoms that have been given to us by our creator, freedoms that Christ wanted to protect...which from my understanding is why He was choosen to be our savior over another.

Does not our own Constitution allow freedom of speach? Does this include someone putting the National Anthem to Spanish or any other language if they so desire? It does not mean you have to sing it in any other language your self.

Do we want to make it a law that the National Anthem can only be sung in English? If it is the law then what would be the punishment for breaking that law? What list of books and songs should we put on this list of English only? And do we really want to open that box of problems?

My point?
If it isnt important enough for Christ to be worried about. If it isnt something we are going to throw the freedom of speach away over...then why should we care if others are singing it in another language?

Our Constitution as been translated into other languages for the education of those of other countries to learn from..and a good thing to...other wise they would not be able to learn form it until they learn English.

There are more then likely thousands of songs, books, litature in general that have been translated from one language to another over the thousands and thousands of years that there has been a writen language.

Do you think that before someone can come to this country for any length of time they must speak english? If so what kinds of test would you like to see admistered to prove that they can read and understand english and to what level?

Who get to decide..other then the National Anthem....what is an English only song or book...or poem....or textbook...or anything for that matter.

I still dont have a problem with the National Anthem being translated into other languages....maybe just maybe the person who see's it in their own language might want to study why it is our National Anthem and begin a study of its history...which would lead into other questions...but wait...I wonder if there will be any American History textbooks in their language...they may just loose interest if they have to learn our language first...and the chance for communicating our beliefs and ideals to others will be lost.

I know...overly dramatic....and a little to much time spent on something I dont think is really all that important except I would hate to see this as just another thing that will lead to a knee jerk reaction that will erode our rights further.
To be blunt. Spanish speaking people in this country have a right to sing it in Spanish....or any langauge. It is a right I for one plan to protect through my voice and my vote...if it ever gets that far.

Lets not throw out the baby with the bathwater.

besides...if Bush is against it being sung in Spanish then I must be for it!!!
LOL
:-D
Wouldnt want to be on his side in anything!!!!!!
;-\

Still Sleepy and Stressed...but not as bad as last night.
I was LAZY to day and took a real loooonnnnngggggggg bath and read a book by Mercedes Lackey(my favorite) Its the second book of The Mage Storms, called Storm Rising...it is only one of about 25 books in her Valdemar series. Most of them are sets of three. I've read about 16 of them...but not in order. I'm weird that way. I started with her last set of three(the Owl books), and I was hooked...although I have little time to read what I want.

You should see the requirments I will have to full fill in order to get my CDA!(the reason I am taking classes and working at two different early childhood settings)
My head hurts just thinking about it.
I wont be done until....or sometime late winter I guessitmate....

anyway.
I just cant agree with you on this one. I beleave that if a spanish speaking person wants to sing it in spanish then they have that right...other wise all of our posturing about our constitutional rights is just that..posturing....and empty words with no meaning.

and on that negitive note...I'll be going for now....before I get heckled off!
:-D
Or have rotten veggies and fruit thrown at me!
:-D

Blessings
Jean
