hmm... that's tough to tell. usually when hard drives
actually fail, they do so quite dramatically, but are
pretty reliable up till then. at least that's my
experience.

my only thought would be to reinstall the OS (if it's
not too much trouble). driver problems can cause
strange problems sometimes.

transmonde was pretty smart and used a lot of "industry
standard" parts. any 2.5" less than 12.5mm will fit in
the drive bay, and you can buy pretty cheap ones now from
any online hardware store (CDW, egghead, etc.). also the
memory is standard SO-DIMMs (SO stands for 'short order'
i think), and this can also be found almost anywhere.

personally i would be most interested in a CPU upgrade,
but there is no way in heck i'm going to send my laptop
off to ASE for who knows how long. other posts on this
site have said that they've found people with the CPU's
but either they are rediculously overpriced or they
won't sell them alone.
