Daniels said. ``If they want the benefits of marriage allocated to a wider circle of groups, they need to convince the majority of people that it's the right thing.''

Wrong, Mr. Adolph Hitler Daniels. The burden is on Christians to prove to all Americans that gay marriage is a scary enough thing to warrant Constitutionally excluding its recognition.

Both houses of Congress and 38 states are needed for it to become law. The Gore/Bush contest shows that it couldn't happen for a number of reason, the main one being that the GOP doesn't control 38 state legislatures. Secondly, with the 2002 and 2004 elections predicted to be all out brawls, will the GOP move to the center to keep the House and the White House, or will it risk backing this extremist measure by religious fanatics? The GOP blew off pro-lifers in the past when the saw it would cost them votes. I think the same thing will happen with this issue. Except for rodents in the deep South such as Bob Barr who could advocate marriage between kin and the death penalty for all
non-Christians still not worry about losing his seat, what politician will want to risk being defined by this one issue?

And what of Cheney with his lesbian daughter? Does he risk losing her participation in the quiet GOP outreach to gays by supporting this measure. Cheney would not support this measure. Bush will, but so what? Bush is a one term asshole whose defeat in 2004 is inevitable.
