Well Ah Lam (and folks)! I kept quiet as I am always the noisy and nosey one and so I thought I should let others talk before I open my mouth again.

Nobody wanted to talk about the Moron (Bush) or the Aggressor (US) so...

No body was looking for real love.

I don't understand this hi-tech stuff posted by Ngan Cheung Hang and so I didn't write.

No one posted to talk about SARS or things from HK SAR.

No body cares about the death of Cheung Kwok Wing...frankly I don't care too much.

and finally I did want to para-quote you (but thought I would be kind to an old friend) "Don't give bloody excuses - just get up and go" - THIS APPLIES TO YOUR SUMMER CRUISE TO ALASKA. Don't just talk about it. I guess with SARS you and your family will have one more real excuse now!!!

The war in Iraq has upset me somewhat...I never liked seeing someone get beaten up by bullies even though that someone might be a crook...America will have to change it's foreign policy or the whole Islamic world will revoke and a bloody nuclear war will emerge. I think the world is very fragile at the moment. OK this is not a site for politics. Please feed us some news about SARS in HK.

Yes, the war in Iraq has upset me somewhat as well, and significantly more so by the SARS thing.

From what I see in HK, most people would like Bush to go to hell, period. He is definitely the biggest murderer on earth these days who controls the biggest army on earth, USA is the country with most weapon of mass destruction on earth, how come nobody have the guts to move him ? And then I found it hard to believe that the US army seemed to be welcome by local people in Bagdad....

But then all these are just a little too remote for us here comparing to SARS. Just yesterday a new record 9 people died, one was a pregnant woman whose baby was taken out on 1 April which weighted only 3lb something. This poor woman was survived by her husband, a 6 year-old daughter and this 3lb little baby, how sad. The Ribavirin is not as effective as it was thought. The ICUs in some hospitals has quadrupled their size to cope with more and more patients in need..... Well sometimes you know it's getting too much for us to swallow.....

Yeah! Talking about Iraq and SARS. The Communist China is a bit like Iraq. A dictator type of country. Chinese communists especially love to spread the good news and hide the bad news - we all know that SARS was originated there and thousands have died! The figures they published are just a fraction of the real horror. I am not a visionary but I saw and knew that HK would be going downhill after 1997 as far back as 1990 - the benefits of a Chinese living in the UK for many years. HK as a colony was unique to say the least but HK as China SAR is just another piece of land as far as Beijing is concerned. Why can't they develop Shanghai or another port but HK instead? People in HK are not used to dictatorship rules. SO the answer is YES they can and is gradually abandoning HK. The situation of HK will be worse I tell you. As to the future of North America - same fate will apply. One massive problem is an aging population of baby boomers and so productivities will drop. Although globalization will help somewhat but old people mean a constant burden and strain on social benefits. Even worse the population that replaces the aging boomers are the baby busters i.e. a small workforce. It goes on. We have studied so much about history, be it oriental or western civilization, the unique thing is: dynasties came and gone, empires came and disppeared. I believe we are heading into an interesting period...

Back to SARS - My clients who return from the far east are very good to me they will volunteer to qurantine 10 days before they see me for their financial things (give me business!). Everyone is quite scared and many have infected in Toronto. Vancouver is OK so far only with about 3 deaths and a handful of confirmed cases. Seattle where my brother lives also has SARS cases! The stuff is universal. The sacry thing is ISN"T THERE A CURE! A firm from Vancouver has mapped out the virus and all we need is a treatment. Dr. Cheng - Is it true that all virus all untreatable? Michael Cheung Ming Chee (Wah Yan 1978) is a friend of mine and he has been picked to treat patient at either QE or QM and he has sent all his familiy to the UK to live just now. I do realise how serious this is!

Depending on what you mean by 'interesting period'. I don't see this 'interesting period' to be particularly 'interesting'.

In fact I am a little worried what kind of a world it will become when our little boys grow up. I agree with you that situation in HK will get worse over time, but for a different reason. I don't think whether HK is being abandoned by the mainland or not matters to us. What matters to us is the open-door policy in China. When the gap between HK and China becomes narrower and narrower, eventualy people will realise that there really is no point doing business with China through HK.

Do you know what was the single biggest mistake Tung committed ? The answer is his refusal to move into the government house just to show that he was different from the 'governors' before him. What he did not know was by doing that the best fung shui in HK was destroyed.

People blame Fat Tung. I don't. I honestly think he is doing an excellent job as a Chinese puppet. He is doing just Beijing want him to do as EXPECTED so why do people blame him?!?!?! Yeah from the Citizens' point of view he is useless and stupid - hey what do you expect??? He doesn't run our government.

"Ding, have you decided on you new digicam ?" Asked Lam

No I haven't yet. Have a professional exam next Sat and I have been busy too. Also NO $$$ = action delay. I have spent all my $$$ in wine over the years. Those A-10s from the US murderer better not drop any bombs my way!

I heard they need a year to develop a vaccine for SARS.

Hello Everybody,

Since there isn't any bad news here, I'd gladly assume everybody is OK. Just can help but to feel sad for the bad luck HK has recently. Bird flu a few years ago, and now SARS. With the virus already spread so widely, some of the "experts" are saying that we may not be able to eradicate this virus, and we'll have to deal with it in the long haul. Just hope that modern medical technology can catch up and stay with this one.

Stay healthy,

Lau Yu Fong

Personally I won't over-play whether Tung is a puppet of Beijing or not. It doesn't really matter if he does what is good for HK, does it ? Be that on Beijing's instruction or not. The problem here is the government is seen to be doing way too little and way too slow. It causes me headache everytime I see Tung on TV, the only thing he does was to deny the lack of or the slugguishness in response to critically matters by the government again, again and again.

Oh, maybe we have made this forum too political. Why don't we we turn to something more 'interesting'. How did you guys spend your Easter holidays ? I played a round of golf and wild-camped in Lau Shui Heung with my family and Paul Chan and his wife Helen. A great holiday indeed.

Wild Camp in HK - Tell me more?!? We didn't do too many things exciting. I mainly stayed at home revising but was so badly side-tracked by a couple of wine books I borrowed from the local library. I also went to a very very exciting hockey match Friday night (Got a free ticket worth over Cd$100) and lost my voice for a couple days - Vancouver won. On Saturday, I went to a 30th wedding anniversary celebration of an older friend of mine (the one who gave me the hockey ticket and went to the game with me). He must have opened over Cd$600-800 dollars of wine and we had so much meat (rack of lamb, prime rib beef, pork ribs, chicken steak...) that I think I am going to be a monk for the rest of my life!!! Besides all that, I have been running 3 x 10km and also been cycling. Easter time was also a time to reflect so I read quite a bit from the bible.

SARS is indeed a scary thing - my wife is quite paranoid about it and she has made me wash my hands so often that I think I should buy more shares from Johnsons and Johnsons!

Hey where is everyone apart from the talkative 'Duck Harn' yau? Chip in a few words will you all!
