I had that same impression but am no expert. I was a bit worried about having it done so late (he is over 5) but it needed to be done. He came from a kennel with a decent reputation and has sired many litters. Undoubtedly members here have some of his pups. However, we have not bred him (only owned him less than a year) and we wanted it done before we considered it. The kennel we got him from had his hips x rayed and looked at for a prelim eval but obviously didn't have them certified as he was not quite two when they were done. He has had some nice offspring, some who I know have done well in competition. Disappointing indeed.
