Thanks for the explanation Norman. The technique still appears to make the dog vulnerable to injury from an armed attacker though, but maybe it's horses for courses for the job originally trained for. With the level of violent crime here and the willingness of criminals to use weapons on dogs or humans that stand in their way, I guess our needs are a little different and therefore our dogs are different too.
