. I feel that when I when I do have children I will use spankings as a punishment. My parents spanked me and I turned out fine. There are just children that do not take timeouts or anything else as a punishment. I know when my mother put me in timeout I just looked at her witha goofy face. I do not feel that teachers should spank the children, I would not want another adult hitting my child. There is a difference in abuse and spanking. I never got spanked so hard to where it left marks and I never got a spanking unless I did something really aweful. No I do not think a teacher or nurse spanking a chlid is the same as a parent spanking a child! I work at a daycare and if I ever spanked a child and the parent found out I would be arrested. That is my feeling on corporal punishment.

Assignment 2 -- Ju'Auni Walker a.k.a Buffy, 15:39:52 07/25/07 Wed
After seeing the video in class on prenatal development it is so obvious that children are truly a blessing. Children come into the world totally relying on us to teach them everything. From day one babies are absorbing their new surroundings. We should understand that they can not and will not do better until we teach them. Yes, will we have to repeat ourselves on many occasions, but no one ever told us having a child was going to be an easy task. Thus, I feel deeply that corporal punishment is not an avenue we (parents, teachers, or nurses) should take when disciplining our children. As a matter of fact, I can recall as a child being slapped or pinched out of angry not love. The adult was frustrated with me and wanted to ease themselves of their angry by using aggressive behavior towards me. I can recall times being hit directly on my mouth if I spoke out of turn. This was totally unnecessary because I was a very timid little girl that really loved talking with anybody and the only thing that someone had to do was tell me to be quiet because of what ever reason. Really for the most part children just want a little attention. Many times children are not given the opportunity to explain what they really want. Besides that they dont understand how to communicate well enough to express their needs. So, at times they act out for love, attention, or they may feel upset about something. Please dont get me wrong I love my mother very much and Im a well functioning adult, however my mothers method of keeping me in line are not the methods I will choose in raising her grandchildren.
In addition, I find nothing wrong with using the Bible as a reference in raising our children. However, we should never pick only one scripture to make a final decision when there is more teachings on children besides spare the rod Remember (Proverbs 22:6) we are to train a child in the way they should go and when they are old, they will not depart from it. With this in mind a parent or guardian should start positive discipline methods in the early stages of a childs life then parents will not have all the problems and issues that they assume they will have if they are not hitting their child. I know it may seem scary to step into trying something new and I know for a fact in the African American community some view parents as weak if they do not use corporal punishment, but as an adult I have never been the one to allow others to shape or form me as an individual and neither should anyone else.

Assignment 2: Corporal Punishment -- Jerry L. Recker, 05:46:00 07/22/07 Sun
I found a website on corporal punishment and the address is www.stophitting.com.
My opinion on corporal punishment is that is should be allowed in the school systems as long as it is followed by an explanation of how to prevent the problems from happening again. Obviously, suspensions are ineffective and costly to the parent who has to miss work to clear the suspension while the student gets to take the day off. I believe that the principal should administer the paddling and not the teacher or the nurse. The difference is that usually the principle has an authoritive role and that there is a humiliation associated with going to the principal's office. From a religious perspective, the Bible is supportive of corporal punishment. For the most part, I disagree that school violence has declined since the banning of corporal punishmnent in 1994. If anything, it has became dramatically worse and as a result there are numerous students that are now being home schooled. Teachers need something to work in their favor to maintain classroom control.

Corporal Punishment -- Tara, 15:41:16 07/19/07 Thu
The website that I looked at was http://www.educationworld.com/a_issues/starr/starr051.shtml.
I do not feel that corporal punishment should be used in schools to discipline students. I would not use corporal punishnment as a parent or teacher. Spanking does not work, I do not care who uses it. No one should be allowed to use corporate punishment. I feel this way because there is a thin line between spanking and abuse. I do not think that people know where to draw the line between the two.

Corporal Punishment -- Kendra McMullen, 07:51:39 07/19/07 Thu
I found my corporal punishment article at http://people.biola.edu/faculty/paulp/. I think that corporal punishment should be used with everybody. I think that teachers have the right to hit to a child just as much as the parents if the child doesn't mind. Nursing has the right to used corporal punishment too. There is no difference between corporal punishment. Corporal punishment has negative and postive effective on children.

Corporal Punishment -- Tonya Pierce, 08:28:08 07/18/07 Wed
I think corporal punishment should be kept out of the schools. I do not think teacher should be allowed to spank the children. The reason is because they could be having a bad day and take it out on your child. I think if anybody should spank them it is the parent not teacher. And If that do not work other methods should be taken with the parent involved.

Assignment 2-corporal punishment -- Tamaryn Cornelius, 04:58:29 07/18/07 Wed
http://www.apa.org/releases/spanking.html
I feel that corporal punishment, if used in the right context, has a place in the grand scheme of extreme behavior modification. Although I try not to practice this with my child I do not feel that it is improper if others do with their children. Also, I feel that there is also a definite difference in teacher spanking versus parent spanking. My main job as a parent is to protect my child from all hurt, harm and danger and if I give permission for my child to be harmed he will eventually lose faith in me. I feel that a parent should have every right to try to fix the problem with help and resources. In order to get rid of the need for teacher spanking the problem should be presented to the parents and an action plan should be developed in order to stop the action and prevent escalation and retaliation of the student due to a teacher spanking. Resolving a matter without spanking is much harder than with spanking. In my opinion corporal punishment is just frustration and demonstrates an unwillingness to use proper communication. We always teach our children to use their words and communicate clearly but by spanking we are not practicing what we preach. Furthermore, in most classrooms hitting is permitted, yet it is okay for the teacher to hit a student? How are the children supposed to learn the right thing to do with such a double standard? Similarly, nurses and teachers share a common gift of compassion and this asset should led them to be somewhat of the same in regard to corporal punishment. They both serve the public and in doing so they must be aware of the rights of the public they serve. In both professions bodily harm is forbidden and punishable if asserted. All in all, corporal punishment is a subject that will be debated for many years to come.

Corporal Punishment -- Corey Lowery, 17:40:09 07/17/07 Tue
The website I found www.religioustolerance.org/spank3.htm was very interesting but the Bible says that if you spare the rod you spoil the child. God knew that people was going to react the way that have which is why these biblical laws were written. In my opinion I believe that corporal punishment is needed because many of our children have gone astray simply because some parents have incorporated a no corporal punishment mind set that is only hurting our children. I do not believe that there is a difference in parents spanking their children and teachers spanking. As educators, we are not only teachers we have to be parents, counselors, and a friend to the children. There maybe a difference depending upon the situation. I believe that whatever the situation is, children should be treated fairly.

Corporal Punishment -- Kenita Cherie Turner (Bold), 15:32:58 07/16/07 Mon
www.nasn.org/Default.aspx?tabid=214
The website I found, though informative I found to be irrational. There is a very definitive point between being punished and being abused. They discussed it so narrow-mindedly and ruled it as being so negative. I was raised during the corporal punishment era, as were my parents, my grandparents, and every generation of my family before me. And I can say that it was effective, because it was used properly. Of course it can lead to adverse effects when improperly applied as can any of the other forms of disciplining. I look at it as being a way to establish respect, a reverence as to where when a parent speaks they are clearly heard. I only received three spankings, all before the age of seven and that was enough. I didn't get spanked when I became of age it is ineffective then. But when you are smaller it is very effective to establish a foundation of how a child is to conduct themselves and later how an adult is to maintain his/her life productively. It is a means to build upon, it has to be viewed for more than just a "beating". I totally agree with it, and will use it for my child (Lord Willin' that I have any) because I know how it is used. You cannot just spank a child, just like you cannot just talk to a child. A child must be raised and shown the proper way to conduct themselves and that comes with time, discipline, and support. It is the reinforcement behind the spanking that makes it effective.

Corporal Punishment -- Michelle Finnerty, 14:45:55 07/16/07 Mon
http://www.apa.org/releases/spanking.html
The website I found was interesting because it looked at both the positive and negative effects of corporal punishment. My parents used corporal punishment until I reached a certain age, which they felt was too old to apply this use of punishment. I am not fully against corporal punishment. I feel as though there is a thin line between punishment and abuse, and that this line varies within individuals. I also feel this line can be crossed very easily. I do agree with my parents when it comes to not using corporal punishment past a certain age because there is not much effect except maybe negative outcomes. However, I would have probably chosen a much younger age to discontinue the use of corporal punishment. This is because I have become more aware and learned to understand there is a much more positive and healthier choice to handle situations, such as positive reinforcement.
I do disagree with teachers and schools being allowed to use corporal punishment completely. I feel that the education system should use an educated, professional but strict way of teaching children and young adults. The school should set a positive example of how to use positive reinforcement to receive a better result. I think teachers and nurses have much in common. I dont think anyone would want to see corporal punishment in hospitals. What if it was okay for an elderly woman to get spanked by the doctor because she didnt take her morning pills or she wet the bed? I dont think anyone would agree that it would be okay for this to happen. Why is it okay for teachers to spank children or young adults for talking during a test or being late for class? I do not think it is okay for anyone to physically hurt another person. I can understand why it is used and I do feel that I definitely learned as a child how to not misbehave. So, I cant say that it doesnt work but I can say that I dont think it is the best method to use.

Corporal Punishment -- Hugh Manus, Jr., 18:14:27 07/15/07 Sun
I found a website on coorporal punishment. It was http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corporal punishment.
My opinion on corporal punishment:
I think that in schools you are going to have children that act up and disrupt class and get into trouble. When you have so many students something is bound to go wrong. I think corporal punishment should be allowed in schools. I think that with corporal punishment you will have less discipline problems. I don't think that the teacher or the nurse should administer corporal punishment, I think it should come from the principal. When you suspend a child, you are not punishing the child because the child doesn't mind being home, away from school. Also, the parents are usaually at work leaving the child to do whatever they want to do. If the child receives corporal punishment for his/her actions in the classroom, the child may think twice before acting out in class again. I think they would learn their lesson faster and better if there is corporal punishment.

Good Morning Everyone,
My name is JuAuni J. Walker a.k.a Ms. Buffy; no, not like the Vampire Slayer. I was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois and I moved to Memphis due to reassignment in the Army. The military base I was assigned to was located at the 330th Combat Support Hospital in Millington, TN. which has been deployed. I love my county but I did not want to go to war. Nevertheless, if called to do so there is no fear in my heart. I love learning and school is an enjoyment for me. However, it is hard sometimes because I work 40+ hours on 3rd shift. I feel very confident that each and every one of us will pass Human Development Course and move on to our next challenge. C. U. N. Class; God Bless!
