I'm not sure I agree with greater funding and better costumes. Bristol have had the sponsorhip deals for example not Impoxbridge. Our coaches have basically said our costumes are not acceptable (so we're all dancing naked this year ;o) ) and we are trying to do what we can to improve them. The university does not give the Dancers' Club or the team any grants. The same was true of Oxford when I was there as well. Oxford have put in a lot of work over time making and obtaining costumes and all credit to them, but there are other teams out there with decent costumes as well.

Surely Cardiff can use these talented dancers as a resource, get them to encourage new beginners, train up partners, obtain sponsorship. Success breeds success.

In response to thoughts on the scary couples: Yes I agree well groomed couples who put in the practise time are intimidating - but they are intimidating for the lower half of the Impoxbridge teams as well: do you think the rest of cambridge for example were never intimidated when trialing next to Fai?? It's how you deal with the intimidation that matters in a comp & if you can hide it - either it phases you or you get on and do the job. Oxford are masters at this: it's this confidence and floor presence which makes them "scary".

These well groomed couples are the exception not the norm at Impoxbridge universities. Non-Impoxbridge teams have well turned out couples as well: Cardiff, Sheffield, Reading, Bristol ....

Glad I've managed to get some discussion going on the board again! ;o)
