Subject: Southern Region feises had clearer language
In reply to: Poor language 's message, "That definition would also include dancers in 022" on 05:32:30 11/11/24 Mon

Here's the syllabus from the 2023 Michael Berry Memorial Feis: https://www.quickfeis.com/FeisFiles/USA-Southern/MichaelBerryMemorialFeis/2023/2023%20MBMF%20-%20Syllabus.pdf

Right on page 7, above the competition numbers: "An Adult dancer is defined as any dancer who started Irish dancing at the age of 18 or older OR any dancer 18 or older
who has not competed in at least five years in a youth competition AND has never placed in the top three in a youth
Preliminary championship competition of more than five competitors."
and here's the results from that competition: https://www.instagram.com/p/CzPS3Y4ugBL/?img_index=1

The definition of "adult" dancer in the 2023 MBMF is the same definition that the Southern Region uses in its standard feis syllabus, which was adopted in September 2023. September 2023 is about two months before the dancer in question resumed her competitive career. https://www.idtana-southernregion.com/_files/ugd/d0c352_16edff5719a443378212fe3b4d08fcb4.pdf

It's hard to not be upset when she blatantly ignored the syllabus' rules -- just as anyone would be upset if someone who was in opens was competing against prelims. It wasn't even buried in the syllabus in small print, it was right there in the main body. The other competitors trusted that this dancer was following the rules, when she wasn't. It isn't "bullying" to point this out.
