I was once asked who has had the most impact on my life.
My answer was 3 people...My dad, a friend and former employer,(Sherman Bolton) and Mr Kuentz.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who looked upon Mr Kuentz as a "second dad", considering how much time we spent with him.
"Big Daddy" lit a fire under us, he took an average high school marching band, and turned us into "The Pride", not only of John Marshall, but of San Antonio as well. When ya did good he told you, when you screwed up, he let you know it.He was strict and a disciplinarian, but not rigid and closed-minded. He instilled a pride in doing something well and in being the best that you could. He taught teamwork, yet never let any one person feel like their contribution was unimportant. He was ALWAYS available to talk to for each and everyone of us, whether it was something about band, or something more personal.
Mr Kuentz gave me a real love for music, despite the fact I had been playing years before I met him, and I knew he is who I wanted to be like when I grew up.
I sure wish I still had that fire!
