Seeing him (my dad) as my teacher, I really appreciated the *respect* he commanded and earned from his students. Through hard work, personal sacrifice, and extreme teamwork, the feeling of pride I felt leaving the field or concert hall was a great thrill for me and unmatched since.

Through the discipline he instilled (remember doing pushups when late to the practice field?) and the demand for perfection (gruelling lengths of time standing at attention) I always thought I would be prepared for basic training in the military.

It's too bad that teacher practices like these are missing from our schools today and students miss out having a reverential awe of their teacher.

To write about things I learned in band will all stem from Mr. Kuentz and his leadership.

He taught us that, to reach goals, we must count the cost and pay the price. Diligence was obviously his way of life and we all benefited from our time with him. His principles of "do the best you can" have remained with me. Hard work isn't so scary now...

I also want to mention...the "Kuentz kids" (who could have been cocky, egotistical and arrogant) were always friendly and genuine. My conclusion is that "Big Daddy's" principles worked at home as well as at the school. I admire that family and the things I've learned from their examples.

Also, I think of Ray often...
