he is a pretty selfish guy - that is, he is - I think - pretty focused on himself, and how things impact him and the stuff he wants, and not so interested in other people's feelings or motivations unless he needs to be.

He is. That's why he only questions Section when it affects *him*, personally, and never otherwise. This is not to say he is teh ev0l - he knows the importance of his job, the good they can achieve in Section, but he never came across to me particularly concerned with the big questions (like Paul and Nikita), or as blindly *believing* in Section the way Madeline did. And it's such a sharp contrast to the pre-canon Michael, who must've had grand dreams about putting things right.
