  • You can. Always post with the same handle; don't use VPNs. But modern internet is crap. Walled gardens requiring separate apps, maintenance and space, and the provision of personal info to multiple companies who sell it for ads and get breached by criminals and spammers. Persistent forums where everything you write is preserved indefinitely and people continue discussions ad-nauseam, inc replying to and bumping years-old discussions. It's stupid.             • No I don't dislike this forum, but I like many are tired of the people who post on here because they like to, I guess, trigger negative emotions in other posters and readers.               • There is not a single online space without people who like to "trigger negative emotions in other posters and readers". That's the internet, old and new, and has been true since the usenet days. Sometimes I like to watch TV, sometimes I like to read.                   • I know discord well. I have had reason to join it for other purposes and have declined for all the reasons I've outlined. If you think somehow it provides a platform free of all the things bad about the internet you don't know a lot about discord (see link inside). If you like that group then you should stick with it and enjoy it while you can. If/when it gets bigger it'll turn to shit like everything else.               • TIFF Is a pretty rare and special place in that regard. There are idiots, of course, and people whose views I don't agree with. But that doesn't make it not worth taking the rough with the smooth. And noticeably there's been a lot fewer of the old "I'm done with this board" posts in the last couple years. It's going well.               • The ability to chip in at a precise point of detail in a thread (without needing to quote before replying) particularly appeals -- and is unique to TIFF. This sometimes makes for exceptionally fine discussions. All human life is represented of course, and some of it you would shun in real life. But still, something to be said for exposure to behaviours, mental states and credulities that you'd not encounter otherwise.
