Subject: Was it worth it?
In reply to: Argus 's message, "I'll fix you up... if I live" on 04:28:07 04/23/02 Tue

Corum turned at the sounds and was soon confronted with Tia throwing daggers at…..some animals? Where had they come from? Well, he didn’t know, but he did realize that something was quickly approaching him, and if he didn’t move quickly, he’d be someone’s dinner.

As the lion came closer, Corum swung hard, knocking the thing off to the side, but didn’t do much to prevent the lion from attacking again. He kept swinging, and hitting the beast, but each time the creature simply shook its head, roared loudly, and continued its attack thinking that eventually it would find itself a very nice meal.

By now Corum had several scratches where the lion had either raked his claws against him, or from a few minor bites. Fortunately, the lion never really got the chance to sink its teeth into Corum’s flesh. He kept fighting the creature when suddenly a though occurred to him.

A shadow from the sky much too big to be a bird. A screaming crashing noise louder than I've ever heard. It looked like two big silver trees that somehow learned to soar. Suddenly a summer breeze and a mighty lion's roar. I killed the dinosaur, I killed the dinosaur.

“Right!” Corum stated as he continued to swing, and then simply paused a moment. The lion looked at him a bit apprehensively wondering why the youth was simply just standing there. “Well, c’mon!” Corum yelled. “Ya gonna be all night or what? I ain’t got time for this stuff.”

The lion tilted its head a bit, and growled a very menacingly low growl. He took a few steps in the youth’s direction, and still Corum didn’t do anything. Finally the creature couldn’t stand it any longer, and lunged at Corum. The youth smiled, and simply stuck Yorik into the creature’s mouth, and moved out of the way. “Gotcha!” Corum shouted. The skull had been wedged inside the creature’s mouth, and now it couldn’t remove the skull.

Before the lion had a chance to anything further, Corum pulled out the dagger he had purchased, and started to stab the lion in the neck. Eventually the creature simply fell to the ground. Now came the hard part, removing Yorik out of the creature’s mouth. Corum had to pry one of his feet inside the mouth, and pull from the other side until Yorik was free. “Way to go Yorik!” the youth stated as he looked around to see if the others needed his help.

As soon as Corum touched the gem, the creatures came to life. Erlic looked around and realized that most of the people were engaged in battle. He spotted a lion attacking Corum, and then another of the creatures going after Tia. He didn’t thing the young thief could manage on her own, and decided to give her a hand.

He quickly jumped behind the creature, and slashed at its side, gaining a growl for his actions, and thus diverting the creature from further pursuing Tia. The creature suddenly lunged with powerful legs, and Erlic quickly rolled out of the way, swinging with his katana just as it soared overhead, delivering a nice gash to its underside.

Both Erlic and creature played the game of cat and mouse, and eventually squared off. Each tried to outthink the other, and each staring into the other’s eyes. Slowly Erlic raised his katana to deliver the killing blow. It would just be a matter of time. He was able to gather from the brief glimpses he was afforded that many of the adventurers had been injured, Ravin especially, and it was best that some of them remain in good health.

Suddenly the creature lunged. Erlic simply swung hard, cutting through the midsection of the beast, and quickly rolled away as it fell to its death. He quickly looked around, and realized the fight was finally over. He checked on Ravin, and was appreciative that Argus was able to save his fellow thief’s hand.

“I suggest we stay here for a while, and gather our strength,” Erlic stated. “No sense in going any further for now. Best that we all tend to our wounds.”

Erlic passed out some food that he had taken from the tower, along with some wine. He stopped by Argus, and handed him a small vial. “This will help your headache,” Erlic stated. “It tastes pretty bad, but it’ll do the trick nonetheless.”

He went over to Jade, and quickly looked at the marks on her neck. The mage was unconscious, and judging by the colors of her aura, had somehow been poisoned. He sat down, and positioned her head onto his lap. He then pulled out a flask from his backpack, and slowly poured the contents down her throat. He pulled out some clean bandages, and some white herbal powder, sprinkling it on the bleeding area once he had cleaned it. It would help slow down the bleeding, and prevent any further infection from setting in. He then wrapped the bandage around the area, and waited for the mage to regain consciousness. The creatures had been quite fierce, and he wondered if it was really worth the effort to regain the gem that still sat on the pedestal.

Erlic simply drank some of his wine, while caressing Jade’s face, hoping that she would regain consciousness. The colors of her aura were slowly growing brighter, and he knew that the poison antidote had done its job.
