Have you ever seen a machine grow and ask questions and seek meaning? I sure haven't.

To get rid of war and hate and conflict, we must also give up compassion. Emotion is emotion be it percieved wrong or right. Resources can be a huge factor but wars can be fought over the color of your skin. Or your religious beliefs. Do you really think that humanity spread over many galaxies is not going to be corrupt everywhere or at least somewhere? Conflict is not pretty, but we will never be rid of it. It's what makes us human. Humans are more complex than just fighting over survival. We will always find something about our nieghbors to love given enough time. But we will also find something to hate even faster.

I think Herbert hit it right on the head with his wars and conflict in Dune.
