I'd theorize that Joss doesn't do well with "mature" characters, especially female ones. Joyce and Tara (but not really Jenny) were mother figures, and I think that might be the character type that he least relates to as a writer (remember, Joyce was originally supposed to be a Maris, discussed but never seen). He runs out of things to do with them, which makes them expendable. The blogger might have been wise to fear for Zoe. But not relating as a writer is not the same as not liking the characters, and certainly not the same as not liking such women in general.

There may be a corollary in that Joss' most successful flawed characters are largely flawed with aspects of immaturity. He writes good youthful foibles, but I'm having trouble coming up with a good example of more adult flaws. The Mayor, maybe-? Doesn't seem so. Later Angelus? Could be.

Incidentally, I noticed that shortly after I posted this thread, someone on Whedonesque posted a link to the same blog, and now that post seems to be gone. I wonder what that means.
