Subject: The blogger's attitude is incoherent
In reply to: Darby 's message, "Well, except that it seems to fit the blogger's attitude..." on 10:24:49 07/22/06 Sat

First she says "they all get happy endings", then she lists all the ones who died or became evil. Can't have it both ways.

Perhaps the blogger doesn't think of Willow as a "woman" in S6 (she seems to be considered a "girl" in the passage you quote). That tells me a lot about the blogger, but nothing about Joss.

The blogger only thinks women are strong if they are either unflawed or have happy endings. As I pointed out above, half the evidence is missing: men. How do they fare on Joss's shows? Did Wesley stay unambiguously good? Did Gunn? Why weren't they given a redemption arc like Faith? Did Spike end up like Anya (answer: yes, exactly)? Can anyone honestly say that Angel never betrayed his friends, was redeemed, or had a happy ending? Did Xander never betray his friends? Did Giles? (Answer: no, in every case).

Then there's the missing half on the female side. Buffy, Willow, Dawn, Faith -- they were all there at the end.

An accusation of bias has to account for ALL of the evidence, not pick and choose isolated facts here and there. I wasn't impressed.
