Well when I went to my first prom (in the day queue) there were very helpful stewards about but it was the lady next to me in queue (who had been promming for over 50 years) who was the most useful with information such as where I could stand in the hall (in the days of white lines) , the fact that you could leave bag in the queue if you needed to go to the loo etc. I actually think it is important that new people are made welcome by the "regulars". I get rather frustrated by the "dedicated prommers" who seem to think that because they know what they are doing then everyone else should too but are the first to be very rude when new people don't know the "rules"!!
