On their day the NYO are reasonable enough, but I would have thought M8 would have been the perfect highlight for the season in which the organ makes its glorious come-back, with a decent Mahlerian band and conductor. Perhaps it should have been the Berlin Phil, after a year or two for Rattle to sort them out. God alone knows what they'll chose for the first night of the restored organ's come-back season. In line with the current trend of popular concerto on the opening night, they'll probably programme Saint-Saens 3. Hugely disappointed in this news, too.
