Between the Columbia WBB and MBB programs. Coaching does matter. Meg built a winning program from scratch; Jim is another story. And yet for reasons known only to him I do not expect Pilling to make any changes. Here is what he is probably thinking: bad luck with major injuries; good backcourt talent coming back; good recruiting class; and after all in most IL games we didn’t embarrass ourselves and actually won 4 for a 6th place finish.

In the new NCAA Bracketology this morning, Charlie Creme has Lions as the third-to-last team out, the “close but no cigar” listing. Translation: they have to win ILT to get in.

Tigers remain a 9 seed, might slip to 10 if they don’t win ILT.

Are you saying a Columbia win makes it a two bid league?

That is correct. According to Creme, Princeton is a 9 seed now, independent of the ILT results. There are other at-large teams seeded as low as 11, so that is a comfortable margin of error for them to stay in.

Columbia is not at the 11+ level, so needs to win the ILT and get an AQ slot at #12 or so.

Hey joisey fan, what do we know about this Charlie Creme fellow who seems to have more authority than almost anyone else in college sports today?

He has no authority, he's a sportswriter, just like Joe Lunardi on the men's side.

To oversimplify, he’s a maniacal WBB fan who’s gone pro, paid by ESPN to predict the women’s bracket. His entire motivation is to mimic the thinking of the selection committee, hence his direct power is precisely zero.

Similarly to Joe Lunardi, who created all of this on the men’s side, his rep lies in his accuracy, which is significant.

Complaints should be taken up with the selection committee and the creators of the NET ratings, not Charlie.

Sometimes I wonder if he is trying to predict or to influence.

Or if he is working at the not so subtle blessing of the Committee to sound out ideas on their behalf while giving them plausible deniability.

P is 33 in the NET rankings, which should be high enough to get in whether or not they win the tournament. They beat #25 Oklahoma, #39 Middle Tennessee and #51 Villanova OOC, and lost to #6 UCLA and #14 Indiana away both very tight. Split with #55 CU. I think 4-3 vs. top 60 is good enough.

Columbia just did not have the OOC strength, played #20 Duke competitively at home and beat #51 Villanova, but other than the split with P, no other wins vs. a top 60 opponent. We can debate the importance of Nov/Dec OOC games, but P played better competition and won more of those games. Hard to see how Columbia gets in based on winning one of three v. P (presumably) and beating Villanova. So ... let's win the tournament!

Congratulations to the Tigers and Lions for winning back 2 back Ivy regular season “championships”. Last year Columbia advanced to the WNIT championship game appearance and Princeton reached the NCAA Tournament second round . If that’s not enough to make this year a two bid league at least there’s the WNIT.
