Columbia baseball clinched its second straight regular season Ivy League Championship and third Ivy Championship in four years by thundering past Harvard today in Boston. Score was 19-1. Let that sink in for a minute.

Not if Yale sweeps Dartmouth. I'd say, "Let that sink in," but that would be rude.

I believe that if P beats H in Cambridge Wednesday, DC has to win at least two games against Y to place 4th. Otherwise, P places 4th. Assumed that the tie breaker is head to head.

If Yale does they will have identical records. Also due to the FACT that Yale beat Columbia 2 out of 3 games in their head to head series. The tournament would be played in New Haven.

LV: While you’re opining on which things should sink in and which things are rude, perhaps you can explain exactly how a Yale sweep negates Columbia’s championship?

Answer: It doesn’t.

Having a second team climb into a tie does not cancel out the first team’s achievement.

Thanks Mtn. Lion for your timely comment --your elevated level has given you clarity that perhaps our Eli fans lack. Sometimes I wonder why people write what they do here!

Columbia baseball is gaining momentum at the right time! It is not outside the realm of possibility that Dartmouth will take at least one game from Yale - which means we will host the tournie! The Yale fans - or one in particular - can let that sink in as well ... while perusing a volume of Miss Manners Book for Ivy Decorum.

Yale took 2 of 3 from our mighty Lions. Yale will be a formidable opponent in the IL championship series. If Yale sweeps next weekend then we are co-champs but Yale gets the home field advantage. The interesting question in a short series is who pitches for Yale in game 1. My guess is that Yale saves its freshman ace for game 2. Make no mistake-Yale’s first year pitcher is very, very good.

Just came across this interesting article from the Connecticut Post wherein Yale's first year baseball coach Brian Hamm suggests that the success of Columbia Baseball has nothing whatsoever to do with the skills and efforts of the Columbia coaching staff and the Columbia players, and instead is due to the size of the Columbia roster. According to Hamm, the baseball team's roster at Yale is undersized and at a disadvantage against all of its Ivy League opponents due to an under allotment of athletes by Yale's Athletic Department. Here's the citation:
