I could be completely wrong here, but isn't there a mandatory retirement age for officers in New York State? I assume this deputy would be brought in for largely administrative purposes (and the way Venning is doing this is totally off base, as usual), but any uniformed department member should be able to safely back up officers on the street. Poll any retired NPD officers and ask if they'd be volunteering to suit back up at age 73. No disrespect to this guy, don't know him from anywhere, but this seems like a bad idea.

When is the council going to have enough of Venning using them as pawns?
