Date Posted: 13:41:56 12/09/05 Fri In reply to: Government 's message, "How about we have a ‘Plan B’?" on 10:40:25 12/09/05 Fri Yo' Government, First, by the way. The "Key" actually worked. You DA' MAN. And if you notice, we are over a month into my possesion and nothing is amiss with water levels on the internet. Now, I have to think to myself, "Now, why did I want the key??" Sure it's cool to have one, but only the first time. In addition, most of the team members have done a 12 mile crossing of the Manitou Straits. The Manitou Island's Expedition's return. That said, it was done in the calmest weather we have ever had. Also, it will not be just the Pathfinder Zodiac, but also, the larger Vic Zodiac team and maybe the Wapiti team. I also plan on keeping enough room for one other and their gear, so if someone is kayakless, then they are welcome to join the team Pathfinder. Interestingly, today I heard rumors about the DNR "Survival" cabins on Hog or Garden or High island. So placed for survivors of shipwrecks, stranded hunters, air crash survivors, etc. Sounds neat to me. Not only a plan be, but a Plan C and Planned bail outs, evac points, etc. I guess maybe we have a taker as an expedition leader? What say you??? Pathfinder >Red Squirrel you rock. After thinking about it I think >it’s an easy crossing IF THE WEATHER IS CALM. I think >almost anyone can paddle 11 miles in calm weather (3.5 >mph x ~3 hours). But we’ve seen what it can be like >when things turn bad. So how about we have a plan B? > >Plan B >Alpha Team (us) takes the ferry out to Beaver >(probably expensive) and rendezvous with Bravo Team >(Zodiac Pathfinder). We could have a similar >arrangement on the return trip. Bottom line = we only >attempt a big crossing like this in IDEAL weather. >Even so, I would encourage anyone who isn’t absolutely >at ease with the trip to go for the ‘plan b’ >alternative. > >This is f’n nuts. I kind of like it. I’m in. [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
