Para. 195. The guard of a general officer consists of a small force of infantry and/or cavalry. The guard is essentially the police guard at head-quarters; it's duties include protecting head-quarters and supplies, and doing fatigue work about headquarters. When it escorts the general, the guard marches in rear of his staff.

Para. 196. The personal guard of a general officer does not turn out to present arms to generals of lesser rank; they turn out only to generals who are superior in rank.

Cpl. Mathis and I reviewed these passages Friday morning.

My recollection in the pecking order is that our general is worth Moore than yours, Dusty. Accordingly, no salute was required no matter how deserving your general may be of a salute. Further, you had no jurisdiction or authority to chew on soldiers under the general command of Gen. Moore via the specific command of his provost captain, Danny McC. Had Danny been there, he would have given you the what-for with enough blue streak to paint a town for harassing Gen. Moore's provost guard.

Want to reconsider your actions and words, Dusty?

Silas
