What possessed him to go to Adrian's aid? Damn if he knew, but Hex went all the same. Likely as not, it would come back to haunt him once Adrian regained control of what little senses he had. No good deed goes unpunished, right?

Clots of clumped sand were kicked up in the wake of the pounding hooves. Why was it he was always running somewhere? Couldn't a King take a leisurely stroll once in a while? Apparently not. Everything happened all at once, and it was a lucky thing if Hex was ever anywhere he needed to be. Geez, the rambling. On to the good stuff.

Hex's trajectory brought him headfirst towards the tree Adrian had the kitty cat pinned up against. Plans filtered through his mind, complex plans, twisted variations of plans, but finally settled on the simplest he could come up with. Adrian was doing the hard part, holding the squirming furball up and being clawed to pieces. All Hex had to do was apply a little pressure. Putting on an extra burst of speed, his sorrel form fairly flew across the sands. His already tender shoulder was braced for impact as he lunged the final few steps and slammed full force into the tree.

Now let's draw a diagram. A mental one, natch. Here we have Adrian pushing DH against a tree. DH isn't happy about her situation, but what can she do. Along comes another 1500 pound horse flinging the entirety of his being against the same tree that poor Fluffy is being held hostage against. Roughly 1500 lbs of horseflesh pressing one way and another 1500 lbs of flying horseflesh colliding from the other has a high possibility of making a fuzzy smear on the pretty bark. A very high possibility. If nothing else, Furball would be knocked senseless, and off of Adrian's neck. Fluffy would likely survive. Nine lives and all.
