I think that Steve's point that one could be dragged down is redundant. As referees we are a team, if one goes bad, we all do...if one goes well, we all do. In our local footy at the moment it is semi finals and we have the referee, 2 touch judges, 2 in-goal officials & 2 interchange officials. 7!

I haven't seen it in action personally, but I would imagine that at events such as the scrum, the referees would change which side they ref? That means that the consistancy thing is a bit better. Like anything it is different, and something that will need practice and training to get it to work best, but it is probably best.
