Well - you must be either leaving very early or have very very very good scrums. Even if you are lightning fast you will always have some players in the way, and more often than not, be watching the half backs back as he scurries away towards his backs OR runs the ball up himself. Then you seem to forget about the quick detaching lock as well.

Sorry - your logic is not clear. Firstly lets remove the word "short-cut" cause really you dilute your opinion when you make value statements like that.

How does this provoke more reliance on TJ's???? If he is taking the different route he is already in place thereby relieving the TJ's. In fact, taking the "traditional" route will see him have to rely upon a TJ more considering his position behind the play!

Sadly you have a pre-determined view which is sad. How do you think we make progress in the field of reffin without trying new things? Challenge the tradition - and if it works keep it. Scrums IMO are one area where we can do better and I think taking an optional pathway around the scrums could be one we should consider.
