In awarding a try in the above situation you are not over ruling a touch judge. It is in the referees scope of powers to award a try and determine if the ball was grounded before the touch judge signalled the ball touch in goal. After all, the touch judge is ruling on his area and may not have seen the ball grounded before the player went touch in goal. My advice is to consult the touch judge first, and back your own judgement if he disagrees with you. Any referees coach worth his salt will crucify you if you disallow a fair try and then say I would have awarded it but disallowed it on the touchies say. You may be a team, but the final responsibility for awarding points is yours.
