Dear Ketch,
All of you Sundara, Shivanath, anonymous, Ketch, Rice Pudding, dr, anon Chris, m, noname, Vijay, others ... you are all very deep in your sadhna. All of you will make good Gurus. Talk to each other like you are doing in this posting and you will gain self realization.
Remember, a true Guru is not appointed by any body. God takes over the being of some one and talks from that some one. Result is that people start to come to that person for answers. If God is talking, more people come and seek the answers, because it makes sense and helps the seeker.
When the individual from whose being God is talking begins to confuse himself as the doer of the Guru's act or projects himself as unique, then that is when distorted, egocentric, deceptive acts begin and the disciples are taken for a ride and are exploited.
Who appointed Lahiri or Babaji as Guru? You can say that some one did make so and so a Guru. But the fact is that God took over their beings and talked from their mind and mouth. Lahiri did not mix "his ego" with the fact that God was talking as Guru using his being. So he remained a good Guru and others listened to him without being taken for a ride. Let us not forget that either God or God's Maya ("our ego") is talking through us, as everything we see is God and what we do not see is also God. So let God talk from your being and never forget that and never let your ego start talking or teaching. Then you all will make good Gurus! Remember your student is the best Guru and who appointed him? Jai Guru!
Ashok
