With all the fuss made about the demise of the youth, I feel the need to write and comment on the release of two of our most promising and former youth players Gareth Jenkins and Rhodri Jones. Both these young scrum halves could have been valuable additions to our squad and players that we would not have had to shell out vast amounts of money to keep, but instead we kept with our same tatic of releasing our home grown players and signing a player with only a year or two left in him.

Continung in the same vein I see that a few people on the site are suggesting that we should have kept Rhodri as our number 2 but on this occassion I have to disagree. In my opinion it it Jenkins who we should have kept, he looked a very promising player and was an able understudy to Nicky even getting the nod over him in a few games in the middle of the season. This is nothing against Rhodri but he has had very little experience in senior rugby and a few seasons in this at a lower level could develop him a great deal. Jenkins had 3 seasons at the Garn before playing for us and in my opinion this helped him develop and enabled him to handle life in Division 1 much better.
