Great spirit in the Pooler camp.

Big thanks to the Newport supporters that made the trip up to the Park.

Very entertaining rugby.

Good luck to both sides for the season.

I am producing a photographic history of Pontypool Rugby Football Club. Only the third book ever published on the history of the club, it covers all the club's achievements and features the club's British Lions and Internationals. It is currently at the printers and will be available from the first home league game against Bonymaen on 31 August. I will be at the rugby stall in the market that morning to sign copies. The cost is £10.99 (plus £1.40 postage and packing) and it will also be on sale underneath the grandstand at every home game throughout the season, at the clubhouse, at the stall in the market and directly from me. If you wish to place orders via the website then please contact me in the first instance. My e-mail address is ray.ruddick@talk21.com.

I am looking forward to what promises to be a very exciting season. Great start with a good performance against Newport on Saturday and let us hope that we can go one better this season and put this great club back where it belongs.

What,s all the fuss about winning a game with Newport it was a friendly after all? Just to give them and us a run out and try a few moves? We knew friday that Newport would bring the youth and 21,s up to the park? I will agree with the report in the Argus about the result and that it was one sided? (experienced men against young men).

Can anyone tell me if Pontypool are running a Youth side this season, as I have heard that they have taken it on themselves without the help of Pontypool United. If so who is their coach. It would be a shame if the youth did collapse as these are our stars of the future.

Cooler Pooler topple rivals Aug 4 2002

Rob Cole, Wales on Sunday

PONTYPOOL 31-19 NEWPORT

IF IT is ever going to happen for Pontypool again, then this will have to be the season.

The crowds turned out for the visit of their deadliest rivals, the players responded and coaches Steve Jones and Nigel Callard fine-tuned the game plan.

The result was a resounding victory against an understated, and often outplayed, Newport side.

What a start to the season for once mighty Pooler - Aberavon take note!

But before anyone gets carried away with the thought of 10,000 fans turning out every week to watch one of Wales's greatest clubs returning to the top, just remember that this was a friendly.

There is still a huge gulf between the Heineken Cup clubs and those in the First Division, as much in terms of facilities and resources as in fitness and skill.

For Newport's new coaching double act of Leigh Jones and Richard Hill, this will have been an interesting if not very informative afternoon's work. What they can say is that their Under 21 team should be strong this season.

As for Pooler, they look to have enough strength in depth, allied to huge experience, to launch a major push for the top flight. They also have some highly promising players to back up their old guard.

With a direct route opened up into the Welsh Premiership at the end of next season for the side that wins the First Division, now is the time to make the grade.

"It really is now or never for us. You never know when the goal-posts are going to be moved by the WRU or the Premiership clubs on promotion, so we've got to make our move next season," said Pooler coach Steve Jones.

"With the squad we've got, I think we can take the title if we play to our potential. I just hope the players realise it has got to be a team effort.

"Everyone is saying that we have got a crop of old heads, but there are as many youngsters to go along with the likes of Mark Jones, Kuli Faletau, Kevin Ellis, Byron Hayward and John Devereux."

The home players certainly showed more composure and co-hesion than their illustrious rivals, although Newport paraded most of their Under-21 side during the four 20-minute quarters.

New Newport coaches Leigh Jones and Richard Hill sat alongside most of their leading players and could only watch as Mark Jones's pumped-up home side raced into a 12-0 lead in the opening quarter.

Tries by back row man Lee McPherson and outside half Stuart Lawrence, the latter converted by the No 10, sent the First Division side into a deserved lead and it took Newport's youngsters a full 20 minutes to reach the home 22.

Pooler's Jones made seven changes at the end of the first quarter, but Newport stuck to their young guns.

The visitors at least settled down in the second period, but at half-time the score remained 12-0 to the official underdogs.

New recruits John Devereux and Kevin Ellis got their first chance in a Pontypool jersey in the third quarter, but eight changes in the Newport ranks gave them a much needed injection of experience and urgency.

They quickly levelled the scores with a try by South African prop Adrian Garvey and a penalty try, converted by Jason Strange, but they gifted a second score to McPherson and Byron Hayward's conversion put the home team ahead once more.

Newport levelled again when wing David Warwick raced through, Strange converting, but two late tries from wing Jonathan Williams and the old war horse Mark Jones, gave Pooler a great start to their season.

Scorers: Pontypool: Tries: L McPherson 2, S Lawrence, J Williams, M Jones; Cons: B Hayward 2, S Lawrence.
Newport: Tries: A Garvey, D Warwick, penalty try; Cons: J Strange 2

Amongst the juvenile taunts "WIZARD ARMY" made, he actually made a more important point than most of us have overlooked.

Our merchandise is going to be supplied by PSM (based in Cwmbran). Now I am all for helping local businesses but the real question is how many people who:

a) Don't live within 10-15miles of Pontypool

or

b) Don't support Pontypool

are going to buy our merchandise if is made by PSM. The likely answer is very few.

What we should have done is had decent merchandise made by a top sports brand like Canterbury, Nike or Adidas! I can 100% guarantee that it would out sell our PSM merchandise.

How many times have you seen kids in another part of the country wearing a PSM jersey? Likely answer 0.

How many times have you seen kids in Wales wearing an Australian/New Zealand or even Hong Kong 7's jersey made by Canterbury? Likely answer 10 times more than you have seen a PSM kit.

Let me ask you one more question. Didn't Ebbw Vale have all their kit supplied by PSM over the last couple of seasons?

I bet they could sure do with some extra revenue from merchandise sales right now!

Its about time we started thinking like a sports business (like most soccer clubs) and not like a small Valley rugby club. The potential for Pontypool after the success of our illustrious history is enormous!

Just like to say congrats to Pooler for their win over the Port today. I know we were not at full strength but we had 5 or 6 first team players. It was a great game and a good atmosphere.Good luck next season, we want you back up in the Prem for more derbies like that. You'll definetly beat Aberavon to the crown this time.

PONTYPOOL'S former British Lion John Devereux, pictured, has got his duster ready for Saturday's friendly against arch-rivals Newport.

Devereux, who joined the First Division club from Bridgend this summer, told the Argus Pooler's first game of the pre-season was the perfect way to "dust off the cobwebs" ahead of the new campaign.

"This is a great way to get the season under way. We can use this match to test how far we have come in training and see just where our fitness levels are. I'm really looking forward to it, but hoping its not scorching hot," he said.

Devereux donned the Bridgend shirt for the final time against Newport last season and is likely to make his debut against the Black and Ambers at Pontypool Park this weekend.

"I'm looking forward to the game. It does feel like it was only yesterday though that it was the end of last season. It would have been nice to have had a bit longer off, but that's rugby," the former Wales international said.

Never one to mull over the sport for too long Devereux said training at the club was going "particularly well" and that last season's Division One runner-ups had a game plan in place.

"We've been working hard in training. We will need to be fully committed to win on Saturday. I don't think Newport will be bringing too many top names."

With the signing of players like John Devereux, Johnathan Williams and Kevin Ellis who will obvisouly play every week (barring injury) will they ever get on the pitch? Ben Jefferies in the centre showed his strength, Joel Griffin was good cover for Dai Smith at full back and Gareth Jenkins never let us down when he played srum half. Thinking about it will last seasons favorite Nicky Lloyd sit on the bench all season with Dai Smith and Stuart Lawrence for company????

Newport hit by injuries

NEWPORT are without a staggering 15 players for their opening pre-season friendly match against Pontypool at Pontypool Park on Saturday.
A number of them are doubtful for the start of the season, which is a major concern for new coaches Leigh Jones and Richard Hill.

Newport are forced to field eight under-21 players in their squad for Pontypool. Ruled out because of injuries are Matt Mostyn (Achilles' tendon), Jonathan Pritchard (broken leg after-effects), Hal Luscombe (Achilles' tendon), Jason Jones-Hughes (knee), new signing Alex Cadwallader (shoulder), Ofisa Tonu'u (knee) and Ian Gough (back). Shane Howarth has had wisdom teeth removed in hospital, Paul Young is best man at a wedding, Chris Anthony is on holiday, Rod Snow is still playing World Cup qualifiers for Canada and Jason Forster and Gareth Gravell are playing for Wales in the Commonwealth Games sevens.

Skipper Simon Raiwalui and Andy Marinos were not considered after the amount of rugby they have played this summer.
Mostyn, Pritchard, Luscombe, Jones-Hughes and Cadwallader are all likely to miss the start of the full season, the opener being against Bridgend on August 30. Gough is definitely out for the start, and fitness reports are waited on Tonu'u next week after more knee trouble.
Because of all their problems Newport include under-21 players Richard Payne, David Warwick, Michael Hook, Matthew Thomas, Dave Tovey, Rhys Jones, Marc Popham and Luke Charteris at Pontypool. Mark Anthony, cousin of Chris, and Matthew Roberts of Treorchy are other unfamiliar names.
In the absence of Raiwalui Newport will be captained by full back Matt Pini. "We are in a worrying situation with all the injuries, but we've been impressed with the input of the youngsters and this will be an opportunity for them to show us what they can do against a quality Pontypool team," said Jones.

Squad: M Pini (captain), B Breeze, D Warwick, M Roberts, N Brew, R Payne, S Williams, M Hook, J Strange, L Lane, M Thomas, C Jones, D Pattison, J Richards, M Anthony, A Garvey, M Veater, M Voyle, L Charteris, A Popham, M Popham, A Powell, R Jones, D Tovey. Kick off 2.30pm.

What worries me following the very unfortunate problems at Ebbw Vale, and to a lesser extent Caerphilly, who have lost Terry Holmes, Gordon Pritchard and closed their website due to lack of support,is future promotion prospects.

I have already noted the growing feeling that the G6 is back on the agenda. The ammunition is being provided to them. Just when it seems our Club is finally embracing professionalism (thank you Mr Jude), will our progress be taken away from us? Of course, priority is winning the league, and I for one am not naive to think that that is a foregone conclusion. However, should the G6 and WRU have their way it, will happen. Some EV supporters have already resigned themselves to that eventuality.

What really stinks is that EV have been very upfront about their problems. Do I mention Neath, LLanelli (how much are they behind with their rental payments?)

I firmly believe that Welsh rugby will never be a force unless the likes of us, EV and maybe Newbridge, are competing on a level playing field. There has to be a strong playing base in Gwent, afterall, that's where most of the clubs are. How we achive that is a potential minefield with the financial problems at the WRU, lack of sponsors and favouritism.None of the G6 have a devine right to close the door. That, for sure, will be the death of rugby in Wales.

Sorry to ramble on, but the question has to be asked. Any thoughts?

Can you still get the kit we wore last season, I wanted to buy those, but because I live and work in Cardiff I was unable to get up to the shop on a Friday morning. I also tried using the ordering method, but they lost my details and never got back to me. Firstly I believe this is a cracking idea, but it may be very hard to implement as most students do not start college until mid september and therefore will not have a NUS card to show to purchase the season ticket. I am a mature student and as you can imagine it is very hard financially so any assistance is appreciated.

Less than a week to go now to the big 'Friendly' with our Gwent neighbours. Probably be the most vocal Newport support for some time at the Park but the Great Pooler army will be ready to play their part in what should be a great August afternoon.

I'm a little concerned that we have a three week gap after the two friendly games. Are we arranging anything for then ???

Aberavon have just been on a weekend training camp at Atlantic College. Seems like a good idea for building the team spirit etc.

Anyway, I'll be on the Bank next Saturday getting the old Pooler chant going.

As far as you know Webmaster have we now finished recruitment or will we be looking for another hooker. We seem to have strength in depth in every position now except hooker although I haven't seen some of our signings before so it is difficult to know how good they are.
I don't think that two hookers are enough, if Chris is injured not only are we down to one hooker but we've lost Leighton as a prop. I can remember last season what happened when we didn't have quality cover for Byron, lost three matches which I'm sure we would have won had Stuart been available but he wasn't and we suffered. Would hate to think that the same sort of thing could happen again. Also have to bear in mind that Leighton is not the most placid player and if he was sent off we would be in a desperate situation. No point having the best backs in the division if we cann't win a scrum!!!

I think he would be great to have, his knowledge of the Premiership is now in place,I think he is the type of guy who could command the ship, through good and bad times as he has done at the Cheesemen.

Anyone any thoughts?

Webmaster,

Do yo have any details on the new merchandise?

Are we having a new kit? We seem to use 3-4 different kits a season. What is our exact strategy on this? Soccer teams change their kits every two years. But we seem to do it every 6 months!

To be honest we haven't had a decent kit since the Red, White and Black hooped, Canetrbury kit with the Air New Zealand sponsor!

I was just wondering how all of you supporters would feel if you failed to make promotion this season. Would Bob Jude stay another season and plough even more money into the club? Last season must be judged as a failure even allowing for some of the brilliant rugby played by Pontypool simply because for all of his outlay Jude received no reward. I was personally glad that Aberavon won the league last season because they did so with nowhere near the financial riches that you were blessed with and also because they won the league the season before and in my eyes without doubt deserved their place in the top-flight. That they didnt achieve this was as much the fault of the WRU as it was their own but I do have to say that Pooler would have had a much better chance of overcoming Caerphilly in the ridiculously unfair play-off. This is not a message to knock Pontypool I think that you are a fantastic club and a credit to Welsh rugby. I hope that you do gain promotion this year because a full Pontypool Park is a great stage to play on and one of the few grounds left with a genuine electric atmosphere. Pooler away although it is a tough game is always the one away game I look forward to most each season. I made my debut at Pontypool Park in 1999 when Bish was at the helm. We lost through a last minute penalty from Matthew Silva (who was later to join us) but I fell in love with the place that day. My only worry is that if Aberavon deny you again as they could because they are a fabulous side will Mr Jude stay? Best of luck for the rest of the season, except when Rumney visit the Park!

It's not often(if at all),that I post messages to our site.I prefer to read the real supporter's own opinions. However,I must go on record and register my deep appreciation for the true support of Pontypool R.F.C. in our fight against the WRU.The cynics could argue that in doing so,they were only furthering their own ambitions. This may be so but in my opinion, people like Tony Clarke(Team Manager)and players like Mark Jones and Byron Hayward, are the type of people that make good sides great.Pontypool are a great club and very worthy opponents.I would ask you all to applaud their efforts and wish them good luck(if not success) next season.

Well boys... we have made loads of signings, some big names too and with the rest of our squad there is sod all gonna stop us. We have a great clubhouse now and things are really looking up. I am sure that the Hooker situation is well under control too but we dont want to buy just anybody do we? they must be right. Trust Bob and the gang to do the right thing by us all.

Bob... a message for you. you have my total support (4 what it is in real terms compared to your input) and I for one am so glad you are with us not some other club because i know...yes Know... it is your influence and respect that have pulled Byron, Mark and all these others here for us. This club will be a Premier club next year and the support you have given the town and club will come home to you tenfold.

And well done to the likes of Colin too who help out in such an important way. You are all a credit and an example for us all to follow.

Where I applaud the new signings and to thank the Bob Jude for wonderful support, there must be one area of concern in the the new sqaud, that is of hooker, if Chris unfortunately was injured or sent of, I feel that old wounds that showed up last season might appear again, I think it in imperative that we find a new hooker to strengthen a superb squad.

What's the crack with the friendlies? Is there a charge to get into see them. I think we should get some dosh from the "moneybag" Newput supporters...lol.
If there is a charge, can we allow free entry for season ticket holders for the up coming year. That'll maybe give an incentive to get them earlier this year and help the club's finances along.

Just a quick note to all you young, aspiring players who are talented enough to make a career of professional rugby, and would like to combine this with an academic career.

As background, I have been a lecturer in Leisure, tourism and business for 7 years, and was also the Commercial Manager of Treorchy Rhondda RFC (Division 1 Wales) in 2000/2001 and the Marketing Executive of Bridgend Rugby ( Welsh Premier )in season 2001/2002. I am currently working in Adult Education.

Having left Bridgend in April this year, I immediately set-up as a player representative (agent) and I currently represent 22 young players from the ages of 19 upwards, who are either looking to or are already playing rugby for a professional club. You may have heard of Rhys Morgan Williams, the young Welsh, hooker whom I last week managed to place at Leicester Tigers.

In 3 months I have managed to arrange the following:

* A professional contract at Leicester Tigers
* A Degree course for a Bath Academy Player
* 2 players have joined Bridgend Under 21's
* 2 professional contracts at Caerphilly
* Various training sessions and trial matches

I am currently recruiting young players from the age of 16 upwards. If you are good enough, or you think you are good enough, and wish to combine an education with a professional rugby career, please send me your rugby CV to the following e:mail address:

rhyd@treorchy.fsbusiness.co.uk and please feel free to visit my website at www.completerugby.com (click on the 'Players CV' button to see who has already signed up)

Kind Regards

Just got back from hols and I've been pointed in the direction of the website (being a bit of a techno phobe, I've been a bit slow on the uptake).

Great news, signing Richard Field back...he used to be number 8 when he played for us before, but in the interview it says he plays 6, 7 or 8. Webmaster, can you tell us what position has he been recruited to play for us now back at Pontypool?

Also Webmaster you asked who I think the darkhorse for next year will be...well I think that perhaps it may be Cross Keys, they were lacking confidence last year after being demoted from the Premier, but I think they might be hungry again for a bit of action. What does everyone else think.

And finally, many thanks to Bob Jude for making the recent class signings that he has. Pooler all the way to the top this year!!

I look forward to us being in the Premier!!

What a strange response from 'Dave' who obviously doesn't think much of Rumney! Point taken about Aberavon's financial backer 'Dave' although I am just wondering quite where in my posting you feel I was critical towards Pooler. Of course Aberavon have a strong financial base otherwise they would not be able to sustain such a powerful squad but the point I was making was that it was team spirit and collective performances that won them the title and I felt and do feel that they have more than earned the right to perform in the premier league. I also feel that Pontypool would be an excellent acquisition to the premier league as I stated in my message, which you either did not read properly or did not understand. Your message smacks of the arrogance that many people rightly or wrongly associate with Pontypool RFC. I was thrilled by last year's title race and was a regular visitor to both this site and the site of Aberavon RFC. I was surprised and impressed by the sportsmanship and mutual respect between the majority of Pooler and Aberavon supporters. This to me showed what a class act Pontypool RFC is. I am sorry to say that to me you seem to belong to the mindless idiots brigade among Welsh rugby supporters who feel that their club is the only one in the world that matters. Agreed, Rumney never have been nor will be a club anything like as rich or successful as Pontypool. We are a small suburbanite club who have achieved a degree of success. Poor crowds and lack of funding are problems that we have. The main reason for these problems is our unfortunate location in the heart of a bustling city where there are many other things to do than watch a local team play rugby on a Saturday afternoon. We will never have the sense of identity and community spirit that Pontypool enjoy but can only try to achieve to the best of our ability. However the point remains that our side, which costs probably one tenth of yours, still managed to win at Pontypool Park last year. For all the money spent by Bob Jude, Pooler were not good enough on that day. Many apologies to you ‘Dave’ for ‘waxing lyrical’ I shall now return to my ‘cabbage patch’ and never, ever dare to return your world where only Pontypool RFC exists. To the true Pontypool fans best wishes for the season and I hope that you gain promotion to the top echelon of Welsh rugby where your excellent club truly belongs

One thing I must say is can we go a bit easier on the refs this year slagging them off and chanting cheat doesn't help it just turns them against us
We once again have the best team in the division lets go and win it no mercey

Let`s hope if this prop from Bath signs for us he is as good a signing as Alex Brown,Will James and Richard Siveter were when they came from there a few years back.
By the way whatever did happen to Siveter,I know he followed Brown to Bristol but I think he left there the season after. He seemed a very good prospect,if a little bit raw while with us.He was certainly a good prospect for the future,it`s a pity we could`nt hang on to him.

I see some of the names appearing in the message slagging off Ben and a few others but I'll not be happy until I see some of the key players signed up to the squad for this year.
The prime names that spring to mind are.....
Joel Griffin, Manu Tuipoluto, Cae Traharne, Nicky Lloyd, Stuart Lawrence, Alun Phillips and Gareth Gunter
I also included Stephen John and Lyndon Mustoe, but I guess they've moved on.
Without these guys I feel that we don't have the strength in depth that we'll need to win the league.

Here's to hoping we get these guys.

It states on the news section that the club is looking for suppliers for merchandise for the coming season.
Does this mean a new kit for the season, maybe with a big name company Kooga, Cotton traders ,etc as suppliers ??
Kooga make fantastic quality shirts, very hard wearing-the Llanelli one is great and reasonably cheap.
I don`t know about the rest of you but I find these polyester 3/4 length sleave shirts a pain in the arse !!
We have them at our local club aswell ,everyone just rolls the sleaves up or cuts them off.
So please mr Jude ,long sleaves or short !!! NO 3/4 length !!!
Is there any official news on Lyndon Mustoe yet, I really hope the rumours of him retireing are false . The differance he made when he played last season was there for everyone to see.He certainly didn`t play like a man who was ready to call it a day !
Has anyone got any info on who the Bath players we are interested in could be ? They have a few Welsh players on the fringes of their squad-Gareth Delve and Andy Lloyd in the back row and former llanelli prop Simon Emms.

We should in the main view it as a compliment that supporters from other clubs come onto our website to make various comments. Occasionally we have controversial and derogatory comments made(which invites similar replies) but this can easily be dealt with by simply ignoring them. With reagard to Aberavon I'm sure that their players and officials hold Pooler in great respect and like us are embarressed and annoyed by the occasional so called supporter who behaves in an anti-social manner.

Just like to say that Lewis Howells is an excellent wing, and i wouldn't be suprised if he breaks into the first team. Stephen John was great for us-GOOD LUCK STEPHEN!His loss is a massive blow but now we have DEVEREUX. Hope to see you at the Park in a few years Stephen.#

I was taking a sneaky look at the fitness testing on saturday, and let me say what a poor sight it was. PROPS BEATING CENTRES!!!!! OLDER PLAYERS BEATING THE YOUNGER ONES BY MILES!!! When you see things like this it makes you wonder why on earth are we still persisting with these players. Are there favourites at the club!I mean for a start: Ben J - totally unfit and extremely overweight, will never be able to last a game god help us if Hawker gets injured. Jefferies was beaten in the fitness testing by Gunter - has this boy no shame..... C Landrey - Looks to be making an effort but still well behind the other backs (Ben not included) G Gunter - not last in the testing but not far from it ...
I'm all for development of the local young lads but come on we are flogging a dead horse here. Joel,Cai and Stuart have proved their potential and their work ethic, they are good solid members of the squad. With out stating the obvious why are the named offenders still in the squad! FAVOURITES!! The back room in the club need to take note that this has been noticed by quite a few and if there is a simple answer please say.
Well done to the older fellas: D Smith, J Hawker, L Woodard, M Jones Best results in the fitness testing.(Byron away) On watching I also noted that some of the scores of the boys named above were better than what was shouted out. Any reason why these boys scores were taken down by so many meters maybe not to make the poor ones look not so bad.
(IN ONE CASE A SCORE WAS ALTERED FROM 148M TO 143M)
Special mentions to Joel, Stuart and Cai did really well!!

Come on no one in their right mind can think Ben, Gunter and Landrey can get away with being so unfit and overweight when there boys in the youth who can do better!

I was wondering if any one who reads this message board could supply me some information???
I am looking to buy a Ponty replica rugby jersey but as I am unable to visit Pontypool (atleast in the near future) I have to rely on buying on-line or by telephone. The Ponty website do not have these items on sale as yet. After hours and hours of web searching I am still unable to find any shops, catalogues etc that sell these.
It would be much appreciated if someone could send me details by e-mail
Many thanks

Just a bit concerned that acording to our current squad list for 2002/03 we only have one prop on our books, without a good front row we are not going to win anything.

A PLEA TO ALL.

Let's go out and buy one. It's good value and, more importantly,it helps the Club by providing much needed finance at the start of the season. An appreciative thanks to Mr Jude.

Rob - don't know how many we sold last year, but can't the Club create an incentive/competition for fans to buy one etc?

Give prizes, such as merchandise, to 500th, 750th, 1000th purchaser, for example?

Are the Club having a new strip this year?

Here's an excerpt from Aberavon's message board....

I am one of Aberavon's biggest supporter. But im a bit concerned and excited at the the time.Im concerned about Ponntypool's signings theve got a lot of experience in the squad now and some ex internationals. This could work in two way's first the experience of those players will tell its toll at the end of next season or the age of those players will tell its toll when we welcome those players to the first division and injury upon injury will be the end of those money spent player's.Also there's a lot of excitement of what chris trying to achieve with the combination of three well known clubs.
Aberavon have made some interesting signing's but with Pontypool thinking they've already got the title in their hands what would you prefer a couple of well known players at the end of their career when injuries effect them most or a group of young fast players desperate to put on the Blood and Blacks jersey and prove themselves.
Pontypools new signings WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF HURT AND THE FIRST DIVISION MAY IT HAUNT YOU FOR THE REST OF YOUR PLAYING DAYS

They sound worried...and when you look at it on paper we have the beating of them. However we must go into the season with the right attitude, similar to that of the end of last season. If we are two scores up then score some more, don't sit back and relax. Let's try a rule of no unnecessary substitution until we are 5 scores clear rather than the 2-3 scores that we seemed to adopt last year.
C'Mon Pooler let's show everyone we are the best!!

Cheers...Glyn
P.S. I am still concerned about our lack of props at the moment. I hope the last 2-3 signings strengthen that area.

Great news on the new signings. Being the eternal pessimist however my main concern is the front row. Who will be our props? A stong front row is essential but I think this is our weakness for the new season. We also need some strengh in depth, 3 or 4 props who can step in for injuries etc

GREAT TO SEE THE NEW SIGNINGS AND MOST OF LAST YEARS SQUAD AT THE TRAINING ON TUES. I THINK THAT'S THE MOST IMPORTANT THING HANGING ON TO PLAYERS FROM ONE SEASON TO THE NEXT. THE ONLY CONCERNE I HAVE IS THE SHORTAGE OF PROP FORWARDS. IF WINNIE AND TAU HAVE GONE WE ARE LEFT WITH ONLY 3. ALUN PHILLIPS, GUNTER AND OWAIN PRICE. I AM SURE THESE BOYS WILL DO THE JOB BUT WITH SUCH AN IMPRESSIVE BACK LINE IT WOULD BE A SHAME IF WE DIDN'T WIN ENOUGH BALL FOR THEM TO DO THE DAMAGE.
ARE THERE ANY PROPS IN THE PIPE LINE?

I see a nice squad forming together now, it’s good to see players extending their contracts with us, and they must have confidence in the team to do that. I attended the two-hour training session last night; a good turn out and players looking fit enough to.

I've been lurking on some other clubs sites, and was really impressed with the way aberavon intorduced their new signings - each player was given a paragraph of assessment by the coach, looking at their strengths and where they would fit into the team

This would be a goof thing to have here - it might bring the coaching staff closer to this website, which should be the number 1 source of pooler information. It's still a bit of a one man show from the webmaster who does a great job, with the occasional comment from Mr Jude. Mr Clark appears to prefer the argus( or nayhwree he can get his name in print, as his main communciation route rather then here!

I'd love to see the coaches review of each match next season as a a new section

Just some ideas, but you're doing a great job already Rob!

I note that the Wizards hve signed six players, including another Hawkins, this one from Caerphilly. It is also rumoured that Allan Bateman will be on dual contract.

They have also very interestingly announced an agreement with two junior teams, together with the introduction of a development side this seasson.

Good ideas. Are they something we should be looking to revert to? I read in the Argus that ten of last years Youth team are too old to play for them this season. What is happening to them?

Any thoughts Mr Webmaster??
