Congratulations must go to pooler on their fine start to the season...

but at blackwood last night, the most amazing game happened!!

Blackwood 16 Newbridge 9 Sep 25 2002

The Western Mail

AMIDST incredible scenes last night Newbridge had three players sent off allowing Blackwood to cling on for a 16-9 win in a bad-tempered match.

The dismissal of Newbridge prop Phil Taylor for punching shortly before half-time was a taste of things to come as flanker Damian Cooper was also sent off for punching by referee Keri Evans early in the second half.

But Evans lost control of the game when he sent off fly-half Jason Williams allegedly for kicking, midway through the second half. Williams had earlier broken Neil Jenkins's record for the number of points in Welsh domestic rugby with his third penalty of the match right on half-time.

A bad-tempered first half had ended virtually all square as Newbridge's Williams landed his third penalty, making it 10-9 to Black-wood.

Things got worse for Newbridge as Jones added a penalty to make it 16-9 after Cooper and Williams had been sent off. But the 12 remaining Newbridge players could have levelled the match at the death as their forwards drove over the line, but Evans judged the ball had been held up.

looks like newbridge are having their post xmas slump a bit early this year... watch out pooler! beware the bridge!
