Yes, you would think so, but some will do MORE in knowing they may recieve the trohpy for their efforts. That is the goal here.

I for one won't be parading about in my
>banner doing service. I will do it simply as me. Nix
>the trophy. Give a certificate or something...I
>appreciate that you are encouraging pageant people,
>but come on...do we have to have a trophy?

Being a Pageant Director and in doing research, statistically, the most revered prizes are crowns, cash, and LARGE trophies. Do you know how many Queens have asked me for trophies in the past, and I usually don't give them? As a director, you also can get items such as trophies from vendors and can get things wholesale. Therefore, I have decided on this large trophy for a prize. The main goal here is not to have people do things just because of the trophy, but for all to hear and see their stories, and as a bonus they may win it.

This is
>disturbing to me. How many loaves of bread can you
>buy for the price of that trophy? Or donate that much
>money in the name of the winner to RedCross.

I have donated personally to the victims myself, hand to hand and in person. There are refugees all over my state. I am also selling my own pageant crowns to donate 100% of those profits to the American Red Cross. How many loaves of bread? Maybe 20 to 25, depending on which type of bread and which store. BUT, how many other loaves of bread will be brought in lieu of those that want this trophy bad enough for FREE? Probably double or triple that amount, or even more! This is why I say I have little money myself, but I am doing this to make what little I do have go further. Wearing or not wearing regalia isn't a requisite. It is up to the participant. However, wearing regalia gives more credit to the pageant the participant is involved in, and many do do their community service work in regalia purposely. As a pageant director, I could have opted not to have this be, as I may not want to boost the other pageants but only my own, so I find it to be selfless in asking "any pageant participants" to enter in "any" or my own pageant regalia they have won. How many times have you seen pageant Queens posed with the military, or posed with the Mayor, or in soup lines wearing regalia? Why wear it then either? Not only does it boost the pageant, but it also is verification for future resumes.

Anything besides a stupid trophy. I would
>never enter your "contest."

What makes a certificate better than a 37" trophy? I dont understand the reasoning. Hey, I can add a beautiful golden sealed Certificate of Achievement to the contest. No problem. However, I can tell you, for a certificate, most would not go further then they may, and that is my goal. To give something that will encourage more work then not, and I can't know who those individuals are who deserve recognition for their efforts at all and in any way if they dont enter. I would think others would want to know who they were and what they did as well. There are many facets to this contest. Not just trophy giving.

By the way, there are MANY pageant contests out there doing things as well. Photo entries where parts or all entry fees get donated, etc. This is just another way to go. So don't put your energy into being disturbed by the words "contest" and "trophy" and debating what others are doing to help in any way they can in the pageant industry. Use your energy to do what you feel is best. Don't down others who feel what they are doing is also good work.

Thank you,

To the disturbed:

Those other pageant contests and pageants out there doing similar contests I mentioned? Some are having it where you enter as normal with fee, and have your fee be donated; however, there are still prize packages going to the participants. Same thing, different idea. So in that case, they are entering and having a fee donated to a helping organization. Still prizes are given. I do this with my larger pageant. $10 of each entry fee ALWAYS goes to the "Make a Wish Foundation".

However, in this contest for Katrina that I am hosting, I am putting a different spin on it. It is separate from all of my pageant contests. You don't enter my pageant for a fee. You enter this particular contest for FREE, and the entry consists of your work efforts (by photo or by written) in the Post Katrina Relief. I dont see a THING wrong with it at all.

To Miss Harris:

Thank you for your heartfelt and complimentary email. However, this is one reason why I don't post at your "typical" voy boards anymore either. As you can see, it received one "disturbed" response, and no others. I use Voy only for advertising purposes. The post that was brought here was strictly posted in the Katrina Relief forum that Voy itself set up, so I knew it would be respected in that fashion. I do thank you for trying though. I was flattered.

I still think if you insist on giving a trophy waiting and letting the actual winner decide if she wants the trophy to be given to her or letting her decide if she would rather have the money used to buy the trophy donated for something more useful than sitting on a shelf. Heck - if you offered this option, I might enter for the principle of the matter - so I could choose NOT to have the trophy. Do you know how many 20-25 loaves of bread can feed? Don't be so condescending - it doesn't show well for you or your pageant.

That would be "Superior Stars Pageant Productions", not starts, and I tell you what, that is an option. If you enter and win, I will donate the money to the organization of your choice rather than the trophy win.

I do know how many 20 will feed. I also know that 100 loaves will feed more. If I can turn my 20 into a 100 in this manner, then that is MY principle of the matter and my choice. The more Queens that help, the more loaves will be given. I dont think you are understanding that concept.

Now, while you were taking the time to write this post, DO YOU know how many you could have been helping physically in that same time frame? Don't bother answering. It is a rhetorical question, and meant to be as condescending as your own.

I will now leave this board and some of its posters to what I can see is its usual Voy demeanor and flair. I have much better things to do with my time.

Good Day Anonymous,
Rose DiBiasi
Superior Stars Director
