Subject: A Texas Woman on the go!

To my dearest friends and family!

I know I promised you a monthly update ... well, I haven't kept that up very well, as I have been so busy. Quickly, you may have heard that I had a fun time in Las Vegas at the Mrs. United States pageant ... making the top 10! The pageant is to air on PAX the end of September... I will keep you all informed as to the date. I don't want to tell you anymore, I want you to wait and see the airing! :-)

Well...I THOUGHT I was busy before Hurricane Katrina! The week before Katrina hit, I accepted a Chair position with Spaulding For Children (a Texas private adoption agency) to head up their "Fall In Love Again" campaign that will run from November (National Adoption Month) through April (National Foster Parent Appreciation Month), with a goal of 25% increase in Texas adoptions during the campaign and an additional $300,000 raised ... with the work I have already been involved with in facilitating already over 100 adoptions here in Texas since my reign began May 1, 2005, (though MANY different private and State agencies), as well as speaking on the benefits of bio-identical hormones to women all over Texas facing mid-life... I have become Mrs. Texas FULL TIME... 50 hours per week... LITERALLY!

This week, I am spending time at Houston's Astrodome and Reliant Center welcoming our neighbors and new residents from Louisiana... Encouraging the volunteers as well as Houston's City and County officials, thanking them for their continued efforts. Yesterday, I met with Texas Governor Rick Perry and his wife! I was given a personal tour/guide through the ENTIRE "Reliant City" by Mark Sloan; Homeland Security for Harris County and Frank Gutierrez the Emergency Management Coordinator for Harris County Homeland Security & Emergency Management... Further, I had the privilege of meeting Mike Montgomery the Director/Fire Marshal for Harris County Fire & Emergency Services, Joe Leonard (I don't know his exact title, but he's like the Mayor of the new "Reliant City".. as he runs all operations at the Dome, Reliant Center and George R. Brown Convention Center) ... and Marty Evans, the CEO for the American Red Cross/Houston... I was honored with the opportunity to participate with Charles Bacarisse, Harris County's District Clerk, Homeland Security, in the 3:00 PM press conference with these incredibly hard working, dedicated professionals, where I got to WELCOME our new Louisiana residents to Texas... THANK the city of Houston, and Harris County as well as the THOUSANDS of volunteers and PLEAD with the rest of the United States to understand that this is not a short term problem... TEXAS NEEDS THEIR HELP! Further, I was able to meet with some of the Katrina displaced families and help offer HOPE and encouragement.

I have been told by so many people, that they simply didn't "realize that beauty queens work so hard" ... I have tried to explain that being a Mrs. titleholder is more about representing the women and families and their needs ... NOT modeling for advertisements (although that too happens). I think that in all this hectic sea of appearances, many people are dispelling their conceptions about pageant queens... I HOPE SO! I want to be remembered as the Mrs. Texas who MADE A HUGE IMPACT during my reign.

I have learned SOOO much being Mrs. Texas so far! Mostly, I have learned the value of TIME and LIFE! We live with a birth year ... until we die... (i.e., Terri Jaggers, 1960 - ?) I have learned that the "-" between the years IS a dash ... really... a DASH! Meaning RUN LIKE HELL to get done all you want to do during that period of time! Each of us as a queen have a dash... a FINITE period of time to make a difference... RUN LIKE HELL!!! Get all you dreamed to do DONE ... work at making the DASH the race that DEFINES your life... ... that's what I have learned. (Thanks Kristin Howsley, for helping me see that! You are an amazing lady ... much wiser than your mere 21 years of age!)

I have so many opportunities... I just hope that I can continue to wear the crown as a reflection of the thousands of ladies who easily could ALSO wear this crown.

God Bless you!
